Vandross suffers stroke
LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- R&B singer Luther Vandross suffered a stroke Wednesday, his record company, J Records, said Thursday.

"Vandross is under medical care and his family and friends are hopeful for a speedy recovery," stated Carmen Romano, Luther Vandross' business manager.

J Records is a unit of Bertelsmann AG.

Luther is class act, as a matter of fact, he's in a class all by himself. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him gracing the stages again. I was fortunate enough to meet him early in his career. It was New Year's Eve, 1981 and he was performing at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. He was on a bill with Peabo Bryson and The Jones Girls. His first solo LP, "Never Too Much" was all the rage. I got to talk to him for about 45 minutes and that memory will always stay with me. I asked him how he liked Chicago and he replied, "Oh, I love Chicago". He knew many of the South Side soul food restaurants like Gladys's and Army & Lou's. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery. He still has great work left to do.

There used 2 B a record shop in what was once called the Green-8 Shopping Center. Of course it was on Greenfield & 8Mile. That's where I first met Luther N person. I still have his autograph he gave me on a cover of his "Never too Much" album. Now I just heard on the news 2night that he may have motor damage from his stroke. That's quite serious. N laymens term, that means part of his brain is damaged and he may have problems moving and walking. Let's hope this is not the case. He (Luther) once recorded a song
"Little Miracles Happen Everyday", let's hope there is a miracle 4 Luther and others who have the same illness.....Hang N there Luther!

First, it was so sad in hearing about Berry White, I was dismayed then, and now, what has happened to Luther Vandross, more sadness, more bad news, unfortunately, it has now become more of the same.

Folks:
My late father had not one but two strokes in his lifetime so I can speak with some authority about this topic.

Like Cleo/Michael said, "you cannot plan for God." When my Dad suffered his first stroke, the doctors said he may not live another few months nor would he regain his speaking skills.

The hell he wouldn't, my family said...

Within a couple of months, my dad was walking fine again (with some help from a walker)and he regained his speech, albeit slow. This all happened because my family and our friends came together to support my Dad through this trial and tribulation.

Although he suffered a second stroke that same year, my Dad made it from 1995 to 1997 - a full year and a half after he suffered his first stroke.

Does Luther have a chance for surivival? You bet - we just have to keep the positive thoughts coming and let him recover slowly (with strokes, there is no such thing as a speedy recovery).

My prayers go out to Luther Vandross and his family.

My mother had a stroke 4 years ago and she is doing fine. At first she couldn't walk or talk straight, but with the help of my grandmother she talked and walked again.

We had her exercise her arms and legs and not let her just sit there. She had blurred vision, and her left side was numb as she told me.

The doctors told her she wouldn't get better, but she did.

Over the summer she continued therapy from her family, not some nurse or doctor and she got better.

That following fall in 99' she went right back to work where she teaches high school.

When she had her stroke, it was in the classroom in front of her students.

Family and friends can always be the best thing for a person other than a doctor.

That was a very happy conclusion of what might have been a very tragic ending, to your story, in regards to your mother's (unexpected) health situation, of her dilemna.
