Does anyone feel like I do about going to the
music stores. When I go into one I go straight
for the what they refer to as old school music
I refer to it as real music. I'm saying to
all the great producers from yester year. If
you were allowed to make it I will go to the store and buy it. My time in the record store was something special. When I was a youngster growing up it was magical. I don't know what it takes these days to get these Great Acts from the pass recorded, because it's so shameful to hear the stuff these New Acts have out today that is called music. I feel the tide is beginning to change. If record companys had any sense they would realize that the economic's are there they just have to be smart enough to deliver the goods. So if the great producer and Artist, and musician from the pass were treated with the kind of Status they should be teated with and were recognized for the tremendous and great accomplishment they achieve this would have never been allowed to happen. So if allowed to make it we will come and buy it. Their a economic theory
that out there these days that goes like this.
(Imagine a need and create it). I think that would apply to, guess what a record company. What a Concept!

The record companies are all crying the blues by their own devices because they are putting out sub-standard product by sub-standard "artists" and "producers". Kids buy only what is put before them, therefore if they were given the "good stuff" they would buy it. Trends catch on like wildfire especially in "urban" areas and I do believe that there could be a change for the beter if this could take place, but first the radio programmers and consultants must follow suit.

I haven't heard this about Clive Davis. If this is in fact true then it confirms to me that Clive is one of the most savvy guys in the business and he will surely beat his competetors to the punch. I wish him every success in this.

I wish Clive Davis would get Expose back together for some recordings. Generally, when you have groups start the solo stuff, little is heard from them again, or it just isn't the same. Does anyone agree with that, or is it just me?

I asked some of my colleagues here in NYC about what Clive is doing regarding a retro-label. They do confirm that it is in the works and in fact a couple of other companies are planning on launching similar labels (the Island Def Jam label has come up in a couple of conversations). When I find out more I will let the Forum know.

Boynextdoor:
Expose was one of the few dance-pop-freestyle groups I enjoyed spinning when I was in radio(I still have my promo 12"s of "Expose To Love" & "Point of No Return"). Did any of the members have a solo career?

In regards to Expose: Ann Curless, Jeanette Jurado, Gioia Bruno and later Kelly Moneymaker have all pursued solo careers. Kelly has recorded two cd's on her own independent label. Expose has a web site that chronicles all their current activites. The web site is also great as it lists who sang lead on what song. My favorites are "Let Me Be The One", "Seasons of Change", "As Long As I Can Dream" and the wonderful "I'll Never Get Over You (Getting Over Me") is a killer! I think this is an example of 3 are better than one and I wish they'd reunite for a recording/tour. Boynextdoor.

That's news to me about Lionel Richie. He was in Atlantic City this past weekend and the Daily News made no mention in their article on Lionel about reuniting with the Commodores. Maybe our dear friend Harry Weinger can give us some inside info about this if he knows.

I dug the uptempo Expose stuff like "Come Go With Me" & "What You Don't Know." I met the lineup with Kelly Moneymaker in 1992 when they came by the record store I was managing in Manhattan (I still have the photo with me, my staff & the group). They were lovely women and very kind to us & our customers.

Wow! How neat to have met Expose. I've only recently discovered them? Where was I when they were big? Hmmm. I've always collected girl group music since The Supremes up to currently. I've been able to recently buy all their CD'S and have been really enjoying them. Then I found out they are no more. Oh well. Is there any concert/videos of them out there?? Expose was part of the freestyle dance music scene of the mid to late 1980s. Arista Records broke their records in the dance clubs two years before hitting commercial radio in 1987.
By the early 1990s, they shifted to singing more ballads. "I'll Never Get Over You (Getting Over Me)" was one of their last hits before breaking up.
I'm not sure about concert footage but they did many videos & television appearances (I saw them sing "What You Don't Know" on the short-lived Pat Sajack Late Night Show. The girls had a live band and sounded hot). You may want to surf the net or check e-bay for a video collection.
