Does anyone know if Eugene Record, songwriter and original lead of The Chi-Lites is still active in music and if so, whazzup?

interesting one this ,apparently eugene never went on the road ,with the chilites,he would put all the vocals together in the studio, have a hit and then the group ,would have to learn the words etc maybe he shunned the spotlight?

Eugene Record sang on the road with the Chi-lites in their early days, prominent years, and afterwards too--until the day he quit.

Hey Folks:
Eugene Record is alive and well in Chicago, Illinois. He formed his own label, Evergreen Records, and recorded a Gospel album. He left the Chi-lites in the mid-1980s after the group completed a stint with Private I Records.

When I was at Brunswick during the late 1990s, Eugene supplied us with color photos of the Chi-lites from their Flip Wilson appearance and when they received their gold albums at the label's Chicago office in the early 1970s. These photos were used for the Chi-lites Greatest Hits CD issued in 1998. Eugene is a very nice spirit and a good person who makes a decent living from his royalties alone.

Eugene Record left the Chi-lites for good in 1988 and has dedicated his life to the Lord every since. He's appeared on the 700 Club and other Christian television programs. Sonny Sanders co-produced Records' gospel album, Let Him In.

Thanks Group for the 411. I think he's a gifted talent and I appreciate the updates. Maybe we can get him on the board someday.

KevGo,
Can you recount what went on in the last days at Brunswick (BRC / Dakar).
They still put out lots of good recordings but couldn't make them hits. Guess they never recovered from that Payola incident.

Hi!
As far as I can remember Eugene Record was one of the producers on the C-nario cd, Turn Around, on Chi-City in 2001.
It was a three-girl group and for a modern r&b release I remember it was quite enjoyable.
Heikki
