Any Smokey song. Anything Raoul Cita, Billy Ward, Frank Wilson, Laura Nyro and Teddy Randazzo wrote would be okay with me. But I really wish I could have written "It's The Way Nature Planned It" by the Four Tops or... OOH BABY BABY by the Miracles (this is the most unhealthy obsession with a song you all will ever witness, really).

IT'S REALLY KIND OF FUNNY THAT YOU MENTION SMOKEY NISH!!!...WHEN I WAS A KID GROWING UP DOWN THE STREET FROM SMOKEY...I WAS BEFRIENDED BY SMOKEY'S VALET...A BIG MUSCULAR GUY NAMED GAYLORD...AND I USED TO HANG AROUND SHOOTING THE S#!& WITH GAYLORD...AND HELP HIM WASH SMOKEYS CADILLAC AND STUFF!!!...APPARENTLY...GAYLORD WAS HITTING THE WASTE PAPER BASKET IN SMOKEYS HOUSE...AND COPPING SOME OF SMOKEYS REJECT MATERIAL...AND TAKING IT AROUND TRYING TO SELL THE STUFF!!!...AT LEAST THATS WHAT ONE OF MY MANAGERS TOLD ME...WHEN HE RAN ACROSS GAYLORD TRYING TO PEDDLE SOME SONGS...AND I TOLD HIM THAT THE GUY WAS SMOKEYS VALET!!!...IT ALL MADE SENSE...BECAUSE THIS GUY TOLD ME THAT FOR A GUY WITH SONGS HE HAD ALLEGEDLY WRITTEN...HE SURE DIDN'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT MUSIC!!!...TRUE STORY!!!...STU

Back in the early 70s when I fronted a 50s Rock'n'Roll band, I dabbled in songwriting, and my compositions were deliberately in an early 60s pastiche style. I recall being amused after we'd recorded one particular song of mine - a Rick Nelson-ish Country-rock tune - to hear the last line of my middle eight on a record in my collection...
"'cause a man ain't supposed to cry"
I'd accidentally 'borrowed' both lyric and melody from Dee Clark's "Raindrops".

FOR ME THAT SONG WOULD BE[I CAN'T FIND]BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH YOU MAY FALL IN LOVE MANY TIMES THE FIRST LOVE IS THE DEEPEST AND NONE OF THE OTHERS QUITE MEASURE UP.THAT'S WHAT SMOKEY MEANT WHEN HE WROTE[I'VE BEEN LOOKIN THERE'S JUST NOBODY AROUND,NO SENSE LOOKIN FOR WHO CAN NEVER BE FOUND}.

there was a song titled SWEET BITTER LOVE.I THOUGHT
THE LYRICS WERE SO TOUCHING.EVEN THOUGH I WAS
14 AND NEVER BEEN IN LOVE,THAT SONG MADE ME CRY
EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT I WAS CRYING ABOUT.
I'D PLAY IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN.THOSE LYRICS WERE
TOUCHING.I WISH I COULD TOUCH EMOTIONS LIKE THAT.

Fayette,
Aretha recorded "Sweet Bitter Love" for Columbia in 1964--perhaps this is the version you're referring to.

Actaully, there are many BAD songs I wish I'd written. Then, having seen how awful they were, I could have torn them up and spared everyone the agony of having to hear them!
