hello, all...
I was wondering if anyone could pust a short list of record stores that I might find some decent funk & soul vinyl. I've been collecting house & techno for a couple of years, but have only recently become interested in collecting this stuff. Can anyone throw me a bone & start me off in the right direction?

Paul,
Try Bob Mays' place on 8 Mile, very near John R - when heading to Woodward. It's a small lockup on the northside of the street. You'll probably see his yellow sign above the window.

Wow, Graham, not too many people know about May's records. He's been in that area forever, used to be across the street from his current location.
Also, check out Cappy's records on 8 mile in or near Harper Woods, 313 527 4000. Call first, 'cause he keeps somewhat erratic hours.
Also The Record Collector on 9 mile in Ferndale is good.
Car City Classics on Harper in Harper Woods or St Clair Shores is also very good. All of these stores carry used vinyl.

Jim - I'm what you might call a Recovering Vinyl Junkie.
I usually pop into Bob's when I'm in Detroit as he's quite cheap; I almost always find something of interest. The last time I bought some 60's Motown LPs that were only a dollar each.

Hey I can relate to that...CDs have no soul...digging through 'old' CDs isn't anywhere NEAR the same as pawing through stacks of old moldy-smelling LPs or 78s.
Cappy has a large number of 78s, next time you're in town we should visit him.

good looking out, fellas.... I found a website (which you all probably know anyways) that is invaluable to the new funk collector:
www.funk45.com
thanks for the info, and peace
