That's nothing...I've got a photo of me sat in the psychedelically-painted-time-travelling VW Beetle, from the Austin Powers movie, "The spy who shagged me"!
Oh, I see..different Beetles/Beatles...heheheee! ;-)

Flynny - I'll see your psychedelic VW, and raise it with the pic of me working for TV-AM, sitting in the Delorean from Back To The Future... (So if anyone misbehaves, I'll post it!)

HEY MEL; HAVE YOU POSTED YOUR PICS ANYWHERE ON THE FORUM? IF SO I'D LIKE TO SEE THEM. IF NOT, MAYBE YOU CAN FORWARD THEM TO DAVID, ALTHOUGH I HOPE IT'S EASIER FOR YOU THAN IT WAS FOR ME. THANKS...STU

Stu,no I havent, but this week-end I am hoping to find a scanner.Although a lot of my pics are too large to scan down. The Tempts with there hands overlapping the Temptones hands is far to big,but hopefully after the week-end I am hoping to have the means to scan a lot of material down if people want to see anything that interests them.Cheers STU,mel.

Because I am such a geek, I took the above Beatles picture and digitally corrected the color to compensate for the fading over time. I used the white part of George Harrison's guitar to figure out how much yellow fading to compensate for (and how much "blue" to add). I posted the result at:

Sorry for the geek interlude, but I have been experimenting with restoring some family photos and could not resist.

Regards,
Ken

Thanks for sharing the photos, particularly the autographs. What a great memory of a great group of singers and people.

Stu,

Most incredibly, the girl I went to the '66 Beatles show at Olympia Stadium -- Tina -- was looking for me on Lowell's other forum -- I emailed her and we ended up on the phone for an hour.

I told her the question of the opening act for the Beatles came up, and I recalled Bobby Hebb. Scott Regen told me that the Ronettes were there too, although I can't say I remember that-- but he was on stage as emcee, so who could argue? I won't!

Tina may have cleared it up, because she reminded me that The Cyrkle ("Red Rubber Ball") played -- they did! And that there were slightly differing acts from the matinee to the night show.

We went to the night show, and she remembered that we had the highest-priced tickets at $6.50. Also that her dad drove us and waited across the street ...I bet a bunch of Motown acts were at the show as fans -- will have to sniff around.

Hey Sue,what an awsome line up,The Ronettes and Bobby Hebb, what was Mr.Hebb like as a live act,any paticular recollections?Mel.

IF I CAN JUMP IN REAL QUICKLY. KEN, I'LL CHECK OUT YOUR TOUCHUP WHEN I GET A CHANCE. THE IMAGES CAN ACTUALLY BE ENHANCED BY PLAYING WITH THE FILTERING. I HAVE HAD THE ORIGINAL REPRODUCED A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THE COPIES HAVE COME OUT CLEARER THAN THE ORIGINAL. MEL; I REMEMBER BOTH THE RONETTES AND BOBBY HEBB. I DONT REMEMBER THINGS LIKE WHO PERFORMED IN THE BACKUP BAND, WHETHER THEY WERE LOCAL MUSICIANS, OR HAD TOURING MUSICIANS. BUT IT WAS CERTAINLY AN ELECTRIC SHOW. SUE; ARE YOU HIDING OUT ON THIS THREAD TO AVOID EXPOSURE? I DONT REMEMBER THE RED RUBBER BALL GROUP...ALTHOUGH I DO REMEMBER THE TUNE...BUT THE RONETTES WERE "HOT".

If I can butt in about Bobby Hebb for a sec, I never saw him live but there used to be a TV show on NET (before it was PBS) called "Soul" hosted by Ellis Haislip (sp?). I saw Bobby Hebb perform live on that show once and it was GREAT. He was playing a Gibson SG (left-handed) and the only other musician was , I believe , Ron Carter on electric bass! They stood facing each other and just played cool tune after cool tune. I was impressed by how many chords were in "Sunny" when it was played properly. That show had many great performances by many artists; I wonder where all the footage from that and other similar shows disappeared to?

LTLFTC,Did he do Love,Love,Love by any chance. The U.K.Rare/Northern Soul Scene were built on records like Love,Love,Love. The flip side is also good.I gave both sides a spin, and I cant believe Just how fast Love,(etc)was/is.A good old 100mph stomper as they used to say.Cheers Steve.

I think Barry Tashian & the Remains backed up the Beatles & the rest of the opening acts on the 1966 US Beatles tour. He wrote/compiled a picture book about the tour a couple of years ago. It's actually pretty good! The Remains broke up soon afterwards never having a hit record.

Trying to get my Uncle Sheldon on this thread.
He was a Capitol AR guy at the time and I remember well the photo's of he and the lads.

The color 8x10 he gave me was stolen from my desk (one of those old fliptops) in '69. Vandenberg Elementary, Southfield.

Anyone out there wanna clean up their Kharma and give it back?

Least I kept a promo sticker:

Anybody remember these?

Mel: I don't remember that particular song- I remember "Sunny" and "Natural Man" which was a hit for Lou Rawls at the time (co-written by Bobby and comedian Sandy Baron-"Jack Klompus" of "Seinfeld" fame!). The thing I remember most is how just those two musicians KICKED, in kind of a jazz/r&b mode. I'd love to see this footage and see if it was as amazing as I remember or if my impression was colored by....uh, 1971 circumstances.

LFLFTC & Mel:
I believe PBS still own the old "Soul" and "Soundstage" shows from the 1970s. If there are any national PBS folks out there please clue us in.
Thanks,
KevGo
