Sigh, Starting Over

Dear Forum Participants, After hours and hours of struggle, I have concluded that the best approach is to start the forum from scratch. I cannot figure how to meld the past discussions into the main forum so I have been forced to archive all of them. The good news is that nothing has been lost. Please click the appropriate link in the left panel to access them. They are organized chronologically.

ARCHIVES RECENT include the most recent discussions that took place in the temporary transistion forum.

ARCHIVES PAST include discussions that were ongoing prior to the transition forum

ARCHIVES OLD include discussions that had been previously archived.

The best method to continue a conversation is to click the "Create New Coversation" button at the bottom, use the same title as before and soon we will rebuild the discussion.

Regrettably the archive items will not be searchable, unless I can figure out to arrange that. So far I have had no luck.

Sorry folks, this is the best I can do.

Carry on, Lowell

Jeez Lowell !

Don't worry about it - referring to the archives shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for all your hard work - I can imagine you must've been pulling your hair out trying to make
it all accessible directly from the forum.

We'll get used to it - the main thing is that the forum continues - and I'm sure I speak for everybody in thanking you for efforts, especially when you have the Ruins of Detroit site to keep you busy

Hey Lowell - probably too late for this year's Nobel Prize, but we'll try and remember to nominate you next year! The Forum's Treasury of Knowledge is intact, and that's as much as we could ask for.

Lowell; thanks for all you've done to keep this together. There must have have been tons of data you've had to mess with. There's been so much content over the past year.....the archives will work just fine. In fact I've re-visited a few old threads tonite for perspective's sake.
Thanks again
Steve K.

This site is the only one for the Detroitophile! There is such a wealth of information here that has to be available to us! Congratulations Lowell! I've been away from all internetting for a few weeks and look what I've missed. The Golden World story takes by breath away. I've just about caught up with the recent archives and am now working through the main forum from old to new. Apologies to all you friends for my lack of input but I'll try to make up for it!

Ian

Larry,

Now I know why you and I are instant Pals!

Out of all those softies above, you were the only one (besides yours truely) who called it like it is:

This websight has enticed a lot of people into doing a lot of work to post a lot of material on the basis that it was a contribution to history.

Now, as of this moment (I just spent half an hour trying to find my posting about the echo chambers for Kim,) these labors of love are buryed as far underground as the glass lined cavern created by the underground test of a hydrogen bomb.

Your posting above feels so right!

I love ya Buddy!

Disclaimer: The word love is used here not in the sense of the desire for flesh.

Sincerely,

Mike McLean

In 1964, my two friends and I recorded with Harry Balk and Barney Browner. One of our songs was called, "Will He Ever Be Mine" and I can still hear Barney's heel thumping the floor as he pounded the piano. We sang a lot of background vocals for other artists, too. Bobbie Smith's, "Walk On Into My Heart" was from the same time.

We also worked with Mike Theodore, who drove an ambulance at that time, in addition to his music!

What fun to stumble onto this forum.

Glad you stumbled in Nikki. It sounds like you have a past in the old days. Wasn't Harry about as cool as they come then?

Ms. Niki, I'd love to hear more about your experiences! Please share what you will, I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say you have a captive audience!

Hi Niki

"Walk on into my heart" is a lovely song.
Do you remember where it was recorded?

What was the name of your group?

Top of pageBottom of page   By MEL&THEN SOME (195.219.7.88) on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 - 10:45 am:

Walk on into my heart is still a big rare/northern soul dancer,
it was released on the
American Arts Label no.2
the flip was called Miss Stronghearted.
(Bobby)Bobbie also cut sides for the Big Top Label.
Niki,
I and many others would love to hear from you.
MEL.

Hello again,

Yes, Harry Balk was incredibly cool, with his twisted cigars, stingy brim hats and one green-eye, one brown eye. We also did some back up vacals for Rick Drapkin, which I remember hearing on the radio late at night....
The whole music scene in Detroit was fantastic in those days. Even little corner bars (which we went to, even though we were way under age) had great soul singers. The boozy smell of old beer. Old wooden floors which sucked up the highs and gave back a warm, bottom sound. Time travel.

Niki
