Roz and Annette recently backed up Mary at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Cant find out how this came about,if it was a one shot deal and if it had anything to do with Martha having her sisters at M45 and not the Original Vandellas. Anyone know anything? |

I was at the concert for the opening of the Supremes gown collection. Mary just mentioned that at the last minute she asked Roz and Annette to be her backup singers. The show looked put together pretty quickly with just a synthesizer player. Mary had "a lot" of vocal problems that night. One song she just gave up on and quit singing. I'm not sure what was going on? Roz and Annette were great, though, at the begining they were singing "You Keep Me Hangning On" and some idiot at the controls didn't turn Roz and Annette's mike on for a couple of minutes? They were charming to meet after the show. Mary refusesd to talk about the 70's Supremes (my favorites), so the whole thing was kind of a let down. The gowns collection was fabulous, though. |

Thanks boy. How do u think Martha felt about all of this?Sounds very interesting. I think Roz and Anette on Heat Wave are close to the best background vocals ever. |

THE VANDELLAS should have been doing this kind of stuff...a long time ago!! They are the best kept secert in the business!! Rod Stewart, Michael McDonald, Phil Collins and all those white boys could have had The Vandellas back them up to give them the Motown Sound!!
I'm sure by now Martha knows what comesd around goes around. Everybody talking shit on Diana Ross and the FLOS, maybe Martha wanted that same PR or maybe she just didn't give a shit and said, I'm taking my sisters, instead of Roz & Annette. That was a big mistake because look what happene but nobody really knows the real inside story but it doesn't take much to fingure it out, maybe Martha didn't sound good or she got into it with the producer or maybe you got to buy the video to see Martha sing!! Theirs a catch 21, you figure it out!!

I was really surprized when Roz and Annette walked on stage at the Rock Hall. I thought I was hallucinating (one of the better hallucinations), as they were not advertised in being there. What a treat, as I had never had the pleasure of seeing them in person. They sounded great and should be out there a lot more. What I saw of Motown 45....I'm glad they weren't connected to that fiasco. They deserve better than that mess. I don't know much about Martha these days. I did buy her new CD and was disappointed that none of the Vandellas backed her up on that?? Wonder why? Don't Roz and Annette also live in Detroit? Whatever.....it was wonderful seeing Roz and Annette in person and it was so nice meeting them after the show. Super nice ladies! |

Yes they live in Detroit. Annette emailed me last year that she didnt know about Long Island date I asked her about as Martha hadnt asked them and was taking her sisters to Westbury. |

A couple of years ago, the Michigan Chronicle ran an article that Martha was not using the original Vandellas (Roz and Annette) and this turned into a mini-contoversy. As far as I know, whenever Martha sings in the Detroit area, she uses the original Vandellas, as the fans here want the originals. Detroit fans know the originals from the other Vandellas. If the originals are available, USE THEM. I would not mind if she uses Lois with Annette and Roz, either. |
