I just returned from a local bar where a trivia contest was going on--one of the "bumper" songs between questions was a complete and utter, total ripoff of Spirit's "Fresh Garbage." I don't know squat about current music but from what I researched, it seems a group from England called ALDA had a dance hit ("Real Good Time") with it in 1998. Somebody MUST get sued if the proper royalties haven't been paid!!! Get Spirit on the phone!
Any other examples? I know George Harrison got nabbed for He's So Fine/My Sweet Lord and Led Zeppelin's Willie Dixon troubles...

WELL CONRAD!!!....IT'S BEEN MENTIONED HERE THAT RAY PARKER JR. HAD SOME LEGAL TROUBLES OVER HIS "GHOSTBUSTERS" TITLE SONG WITH HUEY LEWIS...OVER LEWIS'S "I WANNA NEW DRUG"!!!...YES...THERE ARE SIMILARITIES IN THE SONGS...BUT I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT RAY PARKER JR...WOULD INTENTIONALLY STEAL SOMEONE ELSES SONG...ESPECIALLY A HIT SONG...KNOWING THAT HIS TUNE WAS GOING TO BE EXPOSED WORLD WIDE AS THE TITLE TRACK OF A MAJOR MOVIE!!!...I ALSO FEEL THAT "I WANNA NEW DRUG" SOUND SUSPICIOUSLY SIMILAR TO LTD'S..."BACK IN LOVE AGAIN"!!!...STUBASS

hey conrad72,
I was talking with Kevgo about this song on a thread a few weeks ago. The song is, indeed, called "Real Good Time" and the artist is Pink. It was co-written and produced by Beck and proper writers credit was given to Jay Ferguson of Spirit, who wrote "Fresh Garbage". I'm not a Pink fan but I love the song and, being a huge Spirit fan, was quite tickled that someone contemporary would even think of using a sample from one of their songs. Like Eugene Record of the Chi-Lites, whose sampled horn bit is the foundation of that Beyonce smash hit, Jay should get a nice Christmas royalty check for something he wrote 35 years ago.
