WHERE IS FREDDIE WATERS?

Hi Cornbread

Unfortunately Freddie died in 2000. He had just made a new CD One Step Closer To The Blues for the Dutch Black Magic label which was recorded in Nashville with Fred James. He had been slated to appear at the Blues Estafette in Utrecht but he died a few months before. Fred and Black Magic did issue a superb collection of his Ref-O-Ree sides after he died which was a tribute to his talents.

Best wishes

Colin

Hey Cornbread and Keeping Soul Alive. I was sad to learn of Freddie Waters untimely passing. The first 45rpm I have on Waters is on the October Records label out of Nashville,TN,. The Aside is entitled "I'm Afraid To Let You Into My Life" b/w "I'm Gonna Walk Right Out Of Your Life"- October 1011. I inherited my late anut's record and a few lp collections. All I can say that both sides are excellent blues numbers with subperb arrangements, and I don't have a favorite side. Fellas, I don't know nor am I saying that this was his ever first release, all I'am saying that this is the first and only record that I have on him that I do own. The first time I heard this 45 was in 79 although my copy says 77, no wonder my aunt kept it a secret. When I listened to it the songs are quite sad yet still has appeal. I don't know if these songs we're on a lp, but I did hear of a follow-up, this was in 79 also. However I did go to many Mom & Pop stores that specialized in Blues and all of them told me my earlier copy and the follow-up sold out, and the follow up was either( Probably shelved when I heard it and released with his first copy or maybe it was one of his newer outputs of 1979). When I did ask for any lp's on Freddie Waters, I was told they didn't have it saying it was regional and was hard to come by. That when "I'm Afraid To Let You Into My Life" actually started getting play on many Blues/R&B stations, I thought it was one of the biggest and fastest selling song in chicago.
