The Magic Bag in Ferndale will be showing the 30th Anniversary Edition of Wattstax on Wednesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 4. It'll be cool to watch Rufus Thomas in his pink short-pants suit doing the funky chicken and Isaac Hayes looking all bad as heck in his gold chain shirt.

Watch carefully! You will see interviews with
people who are supposed to be from the streets,
but are obviously paid actors because years later
they became famous on TV shows.

Willy - Are there two parts to Wattstax? If so, are the Dramatics with Wee Gee in the film? I have one Wattstax video, but the Dramatics are not shown on this VHS.

Hey Sis, I'm not sure, I know that they added some deleted footage to the film, but other than more Isaac Hayes, I'm not sure what was added.

I saw the restored WATTSTAX a few months ago. Prior to that, I had a bootleg VHS copy. The only difference I saw in the restored version was that they deleted Isaac Hayes' performance ROLLING DOWN A MOUNTAINSIDE and replaced it with SOULSVILLE.

Hi SisDetroit, I saw WattStax at the Theaters 30 years ago and I have the VHS and double LP...no Dramatics BUT they probably performed Live at the Festival and as Willy says they could be on the new release that has the deleted footage. To me, Rufus Thomas was the STAR!!

Thank you all for your responses. I am hoping they added Wee Gee in that film.

Willy - Do you know the times for the showings?
