Is it loud in here, or is it just me?

Yeah Stu is always loud!!! LOL!

Hey Stu,

My brother Chris was at that concert.
He even called me so I could hear the tinny version of "Minute by Minute" over the Cell phone from Larry Carlton.
I asked him to put his review in here so you may see his post later.

Peace

HEY R&B!!!...ONE THING ABOUT JOE SAMPLE (AS IS THE CASE WITH MOST OF THE EX-CRUSADERS)...BUT MORE SO JOE...IS HIS "IN DEMAND" STATUS FOR RECORDINGS AND PERFORMANCES WITH OTHER ARTISTS!!!...THIS CAT COULD STAY BUSY 24/7 BY JUST THE DEMAND FOR HIS SERVICES AND DISTINCTIVE SOUND FOR ARTISTS OF A VARIETY OF STYLES!!!...STU

It's a shame that 4 guys who virtually grew up together and were friends (and band mates) for decades have such deep issues (religion, jealousy over solo success, who's song(s) make the final cut for the new latest CD) that they can't get along now. Two of the guys are actually in-laws...but they can't put the BS out of the way. Things are so funky among them that (at one time and perhaps even still) Joe & the rest could not play a tune written by Wayne...and vice versa. Hmmmph.....I thought maturity came about with age.

I agree with you 100%, 1Wicked. I've been a fan of their music for almost 40 years and I was really excited to hear of their new release. One of the very first Jazz albums I bought was "Live at Newport 66"; I still play "The Freedom Sound" on the tape player in my car. One of my all-time favorite songs. They played the Detroit area last night but I was not able to attend. I wondered who was in the band? I heard that Randy Crawford had a sore throat and didn't make it.

The Jazz Crusaders have a Detroit connection.
Back in the mid-60s there was a Detroit band which featured the tenor/trombone lineup--The Bohanon-Fields Quintet. They were quite popular around town. The JC regularly, if not often, visited Detroit and heard Bohanon-Fields rehearse. They became friendly and the JC admired three of pianist Kenn Cox's compositions, two of which JC recorded (The Latin Bit & Trance Dance). When Bohanon-Fields attempted to get a deal with Limelight Records, they were told they sounded good but why not play more like JC?
The Bohanon-Fields guys didn't appreciate the advice, and the event caused saxophonist Ronnie Fields to leave the band, causing it to break up shortly after he left.
