Hi Vickie.

This album was dedicated to Berry's sister Loucye Gordy Wakefield who died of a brain hemmorage. Though I'm not HW (ha ha), To my knowledge, I've never seen this album on cd. I believe it was released in 1968. Just trying to help...

I bought it on cd,a couple of years ago.It was in a cutout bin at Barnes and Noble for $4.99.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Livonia Ken (136.1.1.101) on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 04:38 pm:

It is available on CD at Amazon.com for US$6.98 plus shipping. It's listed as "In Loving Memory [PSM]"

Paul Williams' rendition of The Lord's Prayer is worth that and then some.

Regards,
Ken

I too will have to check that cd out. One could tell that Berry loves(d) his family so.

Livonia Ken - I am listening to the Tempts' live album now. I was just reminded that Paul passed 30 years ago yesterday. I just had to hear "Don't Look Back." I wish I could hear the "Lord's Prayer", right about now too. Although - I have already cried an "'Ole Man's River", and especially when hearing Melvin. I loved them both so much.

I wish that all of our departed angels were still here. Why is that I keep asking myself & God. Why do we miss them so much?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Handsome (170.118.157.134) on Monday, August 18, 2003 - 05:57 pm:

I've only heard Just A Closer Walk With Thee-Gladys/His Eye Is On The Sparrow-Marvin (I have this on a 45) And "He"-Diana Ross & The Supremes, which is on their latest anthology. They (someone at Motown) could've included the other artists rendition on their anthologies or compilation series, i.e.-Marvin, Stevie Wonder, Tempts,Four Tops & Martha Reeves & The Vandellas.

You're welcome Vickie. I'm here to share in & learn the knowledge!

Vickie - I hope you don't mind.

Dear Paul - I know that God is handing the mic off between (you Paul) - David - Eddie & Melvin. Thank you for sharing your love and gifts with us. We'll never forget you.

Vickie,

I have the IN LOVING MEMORY LP. The performances of "How Great Thou Art" (Gladis Knight) and "Rock of Ages" (Smokey Robinson) are utterly fantastic.

I also have a Motown 45 "EP" (DJ copy: W4KB-4901-1A) which was released with four of the tunes on the album. This must be a fantastically rare item.

Call me if you would like to drop by and meet Annie, and we can make a CD for you while you wait.

I went to Amazon and just ordered IN Loving Memory because I love Paul's rendition of The Lord's Prayer. You can hear a sample of his singing it on Amazon.

You can also hear Paul singing it on Ron Tyson's website. rontyson.com in the Loving Memory site.

I was present at Loucye's funeral. I watched as Gladys Knight sang "How Great Thou Art" with tears streaming down her cheeks. It was astounding and fantastic. I will never forget it.

I had a chance to pick up a clean vinyl copy, but it was like $80, so I passed.

Many of the IN LOVING MEMORY tracks can also be found on the double compilation cd BACK TO GOSPEL. The rest of the selections are contemporary songs by the Clark Sisters, Beau Williams, etc.

On a related note, the other Motown gospel album ROCK GOSPEL: THE KEY TO THE KINGDOM is also on budget price cd. However, the title for the cd is only THE KEY TO THE KINGDOM.

I believe it was in 1965 that L.G. Wakefield
passed because the same day as her funeral
was the day the Supremes opened at the Copa
in NYC.

Also I believe the "In Loving Memory" album was only issued in mono. Thus the 1995 Polygram Special Marketing CD is in mono. Wasn't One or two of the tracks like "His Eye is On The Sparrow" newly mixed for stereo for a recent CD? (which I cannot find in my collection right now).

I also have never heard this CD, but I was privileged to be in the presence to the Late Marvin Gaye as he so eloquently sang "HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW" AT MY SISTER TAMMI'S WAKE. This hymm was also our grandmother Ludies' favorite!

Interesting, Ludie. Thanks for sharing.

janebse - thanks for reminding me of Ron's site. I just heard Paul's "Lords Prayer." Lordy be! He did a great job in his rendition. He had the Tempts and the Tabernacle choir backing him. How touching indeed.

Mike - thanks for that article about Ms. Wakefield. Another wonderful tribute piece. I enjoyed it. Surely she has welcomed all of her Motown family w/open arms.

Ludie - I would love to hear Marvin's "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", right about now too. I loved him and Tammi so much.

And may they all continue to rest in peace.

SB,

I need to make clear that the image that I posted above was not an "article." It was the back of the LP record jacket, without the outer surrounding part. My scanner can't accomidate the entire 12 by 12 inch jacket, so I selected the center part of the album backside, cropped it, and adjusted the size so that it was just under the 50 kilobyte limit for forum posts. (Or is it 60 kB? I always seem to forget!)

Hey Mike. My bad. I probably missed something in the translation about it. Never the less - it was a wonderful read - and a wonderful gesture on your part in posting it. Simply outstanding.

And the content of it - is what gives the entire read - its just due - IMO
