Jeanie...
The other day, while preparing for a drive to northern Michigan, I grabbed a number of CD's at random for my listening enjoyment. When I was in the car I discovered that one of my grabs was the soundtrack to A Rage In Harlem, starring Forrest Whitaker, Robin Givins, Danny Glover and the talented Gregory Hines, whose recent departure is a loss for us all. But I noticed the title track was sung by Jimmy Scott. Was the song recorded by Jimmy at an earlier time? Is there a story behind his recording this?...and knowing what you have said in the past about the sometimes unfair paractices of some in the music industry, did Jimmy get his "just props"?
Just wondering, since I didn't know about his involvement with this album and it was a pleasant surprise. Thanks
Gary Torgerson

65memories/HI Gary;
When Jimmy recorded the title track "Rage In Harlem" for the movie he did get a check or at least his manager at the time did! But although the movie is often shown on cable and sold in video stores, he has not received any residuals as of yet, like he does for the "Chelsea Walls" movie & others he's done. Also the instumental by Bernstein was released on a all instrumental soundtrack, but the vocal soundtrack was never issued, you can her Jimmy singing the title track in the movie especially at the end.

Jimmy was saddened by the loss of Gregory, a great talent who will be sorely missed. A truly great human being to boot! God Bless...

Hi Buddysoulman! The softcover book just came out too, there was a box waiting for us when we got back from L.A. but they still didn't correct the info. under the photos on the ones that were wrong. I guess I'm a big stickler for correct info., esp. on dates & places, nevermind correct ages listed! Oh, well.
Yea, see you in London at Ronnie Scott's in January!

Funny... tho'Jimmy doesn't do scat on his songs, he'll do it for a feeling that comes over him from time to time, producer Todd Barkin calls Jimmy the best scatman on the planet! His is soulful & sexy. (SMILE)!

Thank you for responding, Jeanie, when you returned. My lack of immediate response was due to the Major Power Outage...we got our power back yesterday in Detroit, but this is the first day I've been on the computer. I'm sorry that Jimmy didn't get proper residuals for his efforts...the CD has Jimmy's title song on it as well as another song. As I said, another example of unfairness in the music industry. I know we've been down this road before in a number of threads, but if any of us could do anything to help the situation, we wouldn't hesitate. Thank Jimmy for providing so much musical enjoyment for so many. Take care.

65Memories Hello Gary;
I know what you mean we had to deal with the blackout too, I couldn't even get my car out of the garage or cook because everything was electonic!!
This is news to me that Jimmy's vocals are on a new soundtrack from that movie or was it old and had been discontinued? Jimmy never received any royalties from the CD either! Gary, could you scan the cover if its new? If its old could you please post the release date on the CD? We'd like to know.
Thanks for your interest,
Jeanie

Jeanie...
The CD soundtrack is an old one, titled "Music From the Film A RAGE IN HARLEM." It was released in 1991. It lists two songs by Little Jimmy Scott and the Expressions. One was the title to the soundtrack, "A Rage In Harlem"; the other was a song called "Adios." The two songs were originally recorded by David Lebowitz at Soundtrack, NY. The CD album producer was Andy Paley and contains, in addition to Jimmy's contributions, songs from Chuck Berry, The Solitaires, Bo Diddley, Lloyd Price, LaVern Baker, Jimmy Reed, Clarence Henry, James Brown and Fats Domino, among others. Quite an elite group. The CD was published under the Sire/Warner Bros. label.
