I believe he is Stu.
Didn't Al have or produced a group called 'Sins Of Satan'? they did a tune called 'Changed Man'
I didn't know he was shot and killed, I just thought he just ill or something.
So...what were the circumstances surrounding his death, if It may be said?

I remember doing record hops at the Twenty Grand and shows for Al Perkins when my record It's your Thing was out. Al was a popular DJ on WJLB.

Al Perkins was popular, fine, and a good singer. He has a couple hits in Detroit. Don't know how far they went anywhere else. I was just reading one of my old Jets which had an article on Al's death. His murder was serious business, if you know what I mean.

so what were the circumstances behind his death???
![]() ![]() |
b.soul - I don't think they found the murderer. I don't remember the particulars, but I believe it has something to do with the music business.
I have numerous 80's jets and ebonys. I look through them every now and then. There are lots of good stuff in them.

SisDetroit,
Greetings, I had a small collection myself, but I had a house Fire...Yes, I remember Al Perkins very well "The Perker". That's 2 bad he had 2 leave this world violently.
I believe Al Perkins was a businessman, who was dealing with someone who didn't have a clue about 'REAL Business'. Just wonder what he'd B doing 2 day if he were here. A lot of the DJ's from our day R back/still on radio like Jay Butler and Butterball Jr. and they were real DJ's, I mean U would know who the artists were B4 or after the music played.

Good point Medusa, I absolutely hate that most DJ's don't tell you who the artist is before and after playing a record.

Here is the Jet article on Al Perkins. Along with the Top 20 for the week. Depending on how many views, bandwidth may temporarily shut it down.

![]() ![]() |

At the time Mr. Perkins spent alot of time here in Chicago, I use to think he lived here and probally did too? I think at the time he was managing Al Hudson and One Way (f.k.a.) Al Hudson and The Soul Partners.
![]() ![]() |
...that's how Alicia Myers got her start.

Al also managed the groups that Oliver Cheatham sang in (Roundtrip, Oliver).
I had a long chat with Oliver about his work with Al back in the mid 80's when he was signed to Move Records of Edinburgh.
Oliver told me Al would cut anything on him coz he (Oliver) was a skilled roofer & was always being called upon by Al to repair his (flat) leaking studio roof.
What studio was it that Al ran (owned?).

Wow, Roundtrip????
Hey I knew the guy that wrote 'Lost inside of you'
(Now deceased) Mr. Gary Glenn.
That song & that group were underrated.

If that's the Gary Glenn that also recorded on Motown, his work is well respected here in the UK, especially his rarish outings on PPL (?)
