The Larks was my group, I started the group when I was in high school, after I got out of the service, we started to record, then I started Harthon records, we did background for Eddie Holdman, Barbara Mason, and others, when I get the guys together we still song on some of my productions.

Mel & Weldon,
I am a bit confused here. What Larks group are we talking about? I know about an early 50s group from Wilson, North Carolina with members Eugene Mumford, Raymond Bames, Thurmon Ruth, Allen Bunn, Hadie Rowe and David McNeil. They recorded for the Apollo and Lloyds labels.
Then we have the second Larks group from LA with members Don Julian, Ted Walters and Charles Morrison. They recorded for Jerk, Cross Fire, Sheryl, Violet, Arock, Jet and eight singles on Money. They had a big hit 1965 with the Impressions sounding The Jerk.
What group are you guys referring to? or is it a third Larks group I dont know of? And is this the Harthon label mentioned above?
Cheers
LG

Hi guys, we are the Larks from Philadelphia,we played most of the clubs and the Uptown theather here in Philly,so we were a local hit (smile), we were a do wop group, then the music changed, I started a record company with two of my friends,John Stiles and Luther Randolph,it was Harthon records, the Larks did a lot of background singing on Harthon records, thank you MEL for your support.

Lars,
The details you have for the various LArks groups
are a bit confused.
The 50's Larks who had Eugene Mumford in their
lineup were on Apollo and its subsidiary Lloyds.
The LA group (an offshoot of the Meadowlarks)
were the group on Money and Jerk.
The Larks on Violet, Sheryl and Crossfire are the
Philadelphia group which changed their name to the
Four Larks.
Can't remember the Arock group offhand, I'll let you know when I've checked.

Hi David,we are the Larks on Sherl, Cressfire, Arock, ("For The Love Of Money") Tower, and Uptown, records,
the reason I changed the name to the Four Larks,
we were still with another record company,we are also Irma and The Larks, Irma & The Fasinators on Wand records, when we were doing it, there was three groups called the Larks, we are not the Larks on Violet records ( "I Want Her To Love Me") fame,

Mel, the Larks on Violet are a Cleveland group who recorded on a small Cleveland label that also recorded the Constellations ("My Dear").

One of my favourite groups, in the last group of children that I taught there was a little boy named Jackson who always made me put on the song where we could here Weldon's voice, Jackson always wanted to here the song with what he called the boom boom!! voice

Nice one Nancy! Now I have met Weldon, I can hear him a mile away.
Weldon - Boom Boom! - this could be a nickname for you! Beware!
I keep waking up singing in my head 'I still love you'.

I knew that squeeky drum pedal would crop up again Weldon (he he). It was a good interview on the radio. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
