just had a long conversation with Carmen Murphy(not related to me)she is the long time owner of The House Of Beauty in Detroit, in 1958 she got into the record business with a LP on James Cleveland and The Voices Of Tabernacle.

Mrs. Murphy is still the sole owner of the entire HOB catalog which includes all the masters issued on her labels of HOB,Spartan,StarMaker and Soul,now in 1964 she sold the name(Soul) to Berry Gordy to use as a Motown label.

Mrs. Murphy also was a partner in the New York based Serock and Arock labels,along with Sylvia Music Publishers.

Scepter Records made a deal with Mrs. Murphy in the mid-60's to pick up HOB's well known gospel name and catalog,however Scepter never issued a royalty statement nor did Mrs. Murphy receive any royalties from the agreement...therefore this voids the deal and all original HOB masters returned back to the rightful owner which is Mrs. Murphy.

I have decided to help Mrs. Murphy find a re-issue label that would like to acquire the rights to this fine catalog,I will begin to transfer to digital tape as much of the catalog I can making sure the sound is right.

Ron...I've passed on your message to Ady at Ace/Kent Records...they've already released some Sylvia Music products. Would love to see a HOB, SOUL, Spartan and StarMaker compilation released.
