Hi this is Kev-Lo I would guess that most of or if not all of us on SD have a large record collection, but there's still some records that we don't have and is still trying to get. I know there's some records that I don't have like the Soul Makossa-Mongo Dibango LP that Lp is very hard to get.I've been looking for that LP for years
![]() ![]() |
You shouldn't lose any sleep over the Manu Dibango album as it will turn up eventually. There are a lot of other records that were pressed up in very limited amounts. Those are the ones to worry about.
![]() ![]() |
I'd love to find That's The Way It Will Stay by Tomorrows Promise. The Ponderosa Twins + 1 45s, It's Rough Out Here LP by The Modulations. A better copy of Find Me by The Attractions. An affordable copy of Lonely Teardrops that Linda Jones recorded as Linda Lane. That's a start.
Juice
![]() ![]() |
Hi this is Kev-Lo hey Juicefree20 what's happening I have the Modulations LP It is indeed a bad LP and speaking of the attractions I Played Find Me and New Girl In The Neiborhood earlier when I was Jaming
![]() ![]() |
SCORPIO...LP if possible...VERY hard to find! Wish I had it and the other LPs! Also, J5 LIVE IN JAPAN.
![]() ![]() |
Juice Free, P-Vine Records in Japan put out a 14 song album on The Ponderosa Twins Plus One some years ago that is still available. It's identical cover and all to the album they put out here in the states when they were recording with the exception of the inclusions of "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" and "Bitter With The Sweet." A final single "Tomorrow's Train" and its flip is not on the album. To my knowledge P-Vine never put it out in CD format yet.

Hey Robb, I am going to acquire a nice old lady's record collection tomorrow. Wish me luck on acquiring goodies!
![]() ![]() |
She has an autographed photo of Joe Louis from his heyday!
![]() ![]() |
Another "spot" I have has about 70 78 r.p.m's, early-mid fifties RnB. Guess I should swoop them, most on cd already, though (Ruth Brown, Hank Ballard, etc.)
![]() ![]() |
LadyMystique I might be able to help you out with the J5 LP... just give me a little more time to unpack my records (moved to a new house LOL)...
I am looking for stuff like
The Pets : Say Yeah on Carnival 511
Or a Belita Woods on MOira (106 & 107)
Motor City Limits : In THe Motor City Limits (Motor City Rec 417)
And a couple of LP's like
Jimmy Jules & the Nuclear Soul System "X-Mas Done Got Funky" (JGS1001)

Barbara Mason - When You Look At Me 45
![]() ![]() |
The LP's I'm still trying to find are:
Clara Ward with The Tomlin Choir... This LP was made in the 60's and had my sisters, aunt, and brother-in-laws who sang with the Tomlin Choir. I had a copy of it but it has disappeared.
Don Gardner Trio...This LP is also from the early 60's and has my cousin Al Cass doing vocals on a song called "How Do You Speak To An Angel".
I would love to find these albums or at least get a copy of them.
Hope someone from SD can give me a lead.
Vonnie
![]() ![]() |
As an addendum to Vonnie's post,
if anyone does have How do you speak to an angel by Don Gardner can you burn a cd or casete for us.
We have a project that we need the song for, asap.
Thanks.

LOOKING FOR: any copies of saxaphonist "HAROLD OUSLEY'S "CD" on J's Way label titled "Thats When We Thought Of Love", it features 3 vocal tracks by it's producer Jimmy Scott. Recorded in 1986, released in 1994.
Jimmy & I, only have a couple copies left in our possesion and are looking for more copies for other's who are searching for this "CD". Jimmy has lost phone numbers to contact Harold or his people directly so if anyone has this info, it would be greatly appreciated as the majority of copies Jimmy gave to Harold at time of release date.
THANK YOU in advance to anyone who may be able to help in our search.
All The Best,
Jimmy & Jeanie Scott

Jeanie/Soul Sister:
Who was your distributor at the time? Maybe a sales rep from whomever handled the product may be able to help (I know of many from my record retail days so I could make a few calls for you).
Also if you can find a CD replicator in your area they could burn multiple copies for you.
Finally, you may want to contact our friends at WBGO-FM in Newark.
Best of luck,
Kevin Goins - KevGo

I'm expecting a call from Andre Williams - I'll ask him whether that Miracle single exists.
Kevin Goins - KevGo
![]() ![]() |
There is this 60's group called Little Sister and they had a record (which was very funky)called Stanga. It was the "B" side of a song I can't remember. I believe it was produced by Sly Stone. I've been trying to get that song for years without any success.
![]() ![]() |
Robb:
I just spoke to Andre Williams a few minutes ago. He said that the single was scheduled to be released but Gordy had cancelled the date.

It's Magic - by Barbara Lewis
![]() ![]() |
Kev-Go;
Thank you for the offer but unfortunately that wouldn't help because J's Way at the time promoted and sold their own CDs. Jimmy did the best he could at that time with being on the road full-time himself. Jimmy owned all copies and copywrites but turned the bulk of Harold's over to him. I have hope that we will locate Harold in N.Y. eventually, but would like to sooner rather than later.
As far as having copies reproduced from our CDs or the master, I'd rather not go to all that trouble just for a small number of die-hard fans who need this CD for their collection (smile). I have enough to deal with, with Jimmy's own CDs on the road that I carry with us.
We still have lots of CD's left on other artists Jimmy produced on J's Way that are sitting on shelves in our studio from Arthur Leeks, Connie Speed (a.k.a. Connie Pitt), Lander Coleman, Larry Brown, Janet Tanaj & Sven Anderson, etc...but we are out of Harold Ousley's, the one collector's want just because Jimmy is on it even though he sings those same songs on other CDs of his own that they already have, they want it to complete their collection (sigh)! (smile).
Anyhow, thanks again for the offer. Much appreciated.
S.S.J. & Jimmy

Jeanie/Soul Sister:
I could replicate a few copies for you here in NYC where I work if you like. We have a multi-CD burner that we use for our in-house cataloging as well as a DAT machine if the master is preserved on DAT tape. I'd be happy to pay for the blank CDs.
Email me at kevingoins@juno.com if you & Jimmy are interested.

Think Nothing About It by Major Lance is on CD
A 45 I just found I've been looking for for about 20 years I just found was "Don't Get Close" by Little Anthony and The Imperials.
![]() ![]() |
jcarp, my song by Little Sister was "You're The One...I have it on a 45, but would love to have it on cd. I wondered why they didn't put this song on Sly's greatest hits....At any rate..
jcarp, the song "Stanga" can be found on an import cd called "Funk Drops 2". It's on Amazon.com. Good Luck!

That is such a generous offer but not neccessary, Jimmy has a CD burner here but I haven't taken the time to ever use it. When I'm not busy, I should be, but would rather spend my down time either just crashing with Jimmy or playing on the computer, thats why I'm here, relaxation . Then again you know how these purist collectors want originals!LOL!
Thanks again for the generous offer.

I hope not! (?) I'll ask Jimmy, Corn.

![]() ![]() |
Thanks Calliluv, for the information about the Major Lance on CD. But I actually have recordings of that song on one of his Okeh LPs and also on an Okeh 7 inch 33 RPM EP. I also have it on CD. I just wanted to get the missing 45 issue 7200, to fill in my label run. It's a missing number. Were not sure if it was even pressed up as a company file copy (let alone DJ). I really shouldn't have listed it (it's just that I'm an completist archivist of Chicago and Detroit soul labels). If someone found it, and realised how rare it is, I probably wouldn't want to pay what they'd ask for it, anyway (as i already have it to listen to).
![]() ![]() |
Thanks KevGo, for the info on The Andre Williams Miracle Record, I guess we can assume the same is true for Miracle 3 - "Blibber Blabber" by Gino Parks? For years, we had seen The Little Iva, Gino Parks and Andre Williams Miracle 2, 3 and 4 listed as scheduled, but seen no sign of any pressed records. I didn't see the Little Iva record in the Jobete Music record file. Someone had removed it (like the Frank Wilson Soul record). I assumed all 3 had not been issued-or even pressed up.

I would love to have a copy of "no time for you" by a group called "the commands" on a label called Dynamic. In fact, I'd love a CD that had it on there...anything... Seems like they have all gone overseas to the Northern soul clubs.. More power to you folks in the UK and elsewhere across the pond who obviously care more about our obscure soul artists than we do here at home..But enough preaching...does anyone know a source for this one on a CD? I have the 1966 version by the O'Jays, and while it is good, the Commands version is superior in its "crudity" as it were....

Here's my wishlist:
THE LOVE THAT A WOMAN SHOULD GIVE TO A MAN/Patti Drew (Capitol 2473)
THREE HEARTS IN A TANGLE/George & Gwen McCrae (Alston 4576)
THE BOTTLE OR ME/Dee Dee Sharp (Gamble 4005)
CONQUER THE WORLD/Dee Dee Sharp & Bunny Sigler (Philadelphia International 3512)
I CAN'T STAND NO MORE HEARTACHES/The Emotions (Brainstorm ?)
I CAN'T CONTROL THESE EMOTIONS/The Emotions (Twin Stacks ?)
YOUR SIGN IS A GOOD SIGN/Mitty Collier (Peach Tree 128)
NOBODY/Kim Weston (MGM 13881)
BUSINESS DEAL/Doris Duke (Mainstream 302)
I'd also like to have all of Benny Latimore's (Latimore) singles on the Dade label. I've already got THE POWER AND THE GLORY (Dade 2017) and it's excellent! One of my alltime favs.

Frankie B. The Commands "No Time For You" was issued on the Cd "Lost Soul Treasures Volume 1" #SOS-1002. The Cd is a delight although I think it is a boot, I have no idea from where it originated from.
![]() ![]() |
Frankie B, I believe the O'Jays version of "No Time For You" is the remake and the Commands' the original. When H.B. Barnum stopped producing the O'Jays at Imperial they cut a lot of remakes of songs that were previously released non hits. Would love to hear the Commands version.
![]() ![]() |
Nish, I have the Barbara Lewis "It's magic", and I can let it go. You can email me at : phil.chivot@tiscali.fr.

The Commands - No time for you - also got a release on Backbeat Records (570). The other side "Hey it's love" also got plays in the Northern Clubs.

WOW!! Rodman.
Had forgotten all about Nobody by Kim Weston. I'm going to dig. I think maybe I might have it.
![]() ![]() |
What's up Cali! I became interested in Kim Weston's 'Nobody' last month when either Tony or Randy Russi mentioned it on a Hodges, James, Smith & Crawford thread. I had mentioned the excellent H,J,S & C version of 'Nobody' on Mpingo and one of the brothers informed me that Kim had also recorded that tune and she says that it's her favorite Post-Motown single. I did a little research and I see that it was also her most successful Post-Motown single (#39 R&B). The H,J,S & C version has one of the most wicked basslines I've ever heard in my life! I can't wait to see what Kim did with it. Let me know how you like it if you do have it caliluv. Thanks.
![]() ![]() |
I like the song "Love Land" especially; but I would empty my wallet for most anything by "the Watts 103rd Street Rythm Band".
![]() ![]() |
Robb K these label scans are for you.
![]() ![]() |
Juice,
Maybe so...Cosmic Slop is one of the hits, and I Wanna know If its Good to You.
![]() ![]() |
Thanks for the scans Ron. I'd seen the Little Iva before, as you put it on an earlier thread. That still doesn't tell me if it was pressed comercially, as I've seen the Frank Wilson in private hands, and as you've surmised, there were only 6 pressed originally. The Oma heard has the cut-out hole punched. So, I assume commercial copies were pressed (although, I'm sure it was never delivered outside of Detroit/Toledo?
![]() ![]() |
THATS A NICE RECORD THE LITTLE IVA, OF THE 12 MIRACLES SINGLES MIRACLES 3 AND 4 WERE NEVER RELEASED,I HAVE ALL OF THEM BUT 2,5,8 AND 9 , THE EQUADORS ONE IS A NICE SINGLE AND JIMMY RUFFIN' "HEART" IS A GOOD SONG,
I STILL NEED TO FIND MARVIN GAYE'S SOLDIERS PLEA
![]() ![]() |
ONE OTHER THING ABOUT THE MIRACLE LABEL I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN ACTUAL COPY THAT READ "IF IT'S A HIT IT'S A MIRACLE"
![]() ![]() |
Soul 35019 - still searchin'!
![]() ![]() |
Robb: a little note about Miracle 2, I 'm positive that record was pressed in 1963 and not at the time of the original scheduled release date. I believe Raynoma may have had some copies(100) done up just for herself,I wish I had asked her when I met with her a few years ago, I did ask Gino Parks about his and he said he never seen one and I never seen 3 or 4 so other than acetates or maybe a few test pressings I doubt that 2-3 or 4 were actualy pressed comercially.

I've posted this before, but I can't believe none of y'alls have this record. I never would have sold mine if I knew it was so rare. Can someone cut me a CD (or sell me a 45) of:
I Know How It Feels/Wondering If You Miss Me by
Laura Johnson on Brent. Both sides are published by Jobete, so probably a Detroit artist!?
The other 45 I want is "In My Diary" by Maskman & Agents. I have it on a bad bootleg CD.
Lenny
![]() ![]() |
I have the Laura Johnson record, but I can't cut a CD, as I don't have a CD burner (nor do I know anyone with one where I am located now). The recordings were made by Correc-Tone in Detroit, but I'm not sure that she was living in Detroit at the time, as they also recorded Marva Josie; who, I believe, was an East Coast artist. I could put it on cassette tape for you. Then, you could transfer that to CD, yourself, if you have the capability. Perhaps we can swap recordings for each other (I'm sure you have some music I would like to hear, and vice versa). If you wish, you can contact me at: robbklein@yahoo.com
![]() ![]() |
Actually, only one side, "I Know How It Feels", was published by Jobete (as it was a Motown song, sung by Satintones, Mary Wells, and a few other Motown artists. "Wondering If You Miss Me" was written by Ms. Johnson, Robert Bateman and Willie Harbert, for Correc-Tone.

Standing On Guard - The Falcons.

I loved Standing On Guard, remember You Don't Have To Say You Love Me by The Four Sonics?
![]() ![]() |
Going allllll the way back to Robb's choice...I'm after this one too:
Combinations - Kimtone 1001
...and was shocked to see a label scan recently with a different label design than 'normal'...so two presses to chase thus making it easier for us, eh?! ;-)
What's this one like...as good as their, 'It's my time' on Capitol, which I love.
Drew-Vels, Quill 107
TIA
Flynny
raresoulforum.com
![]() ![]() |
I haven't heard Quill 107 yet, Flynny, so I'm only guessing that it's good. The two other records I have on Quill by The Drew-Vels are "cute" little dittys, and sound okay. They're worth having. They are similar in quality to some of their early Capital sounds (but not nearly as good as "Tell Him"; and not quite as good as "Everybody Knows" or It's My Time"
i can now scratch another off my list above, as I have finally added the 1959 Major Lance Mercury record (backed by The Impressions) to my collection, after 44 years of looking. I should have paid the dollar when it was new (although it didn't come to Winnipeg, I did visit my cousins in Chicago that year, and could have bought it. I never saw it again until now.
![]() ![]() |
There are too, too many things I'm after...unfortunately, many other folks (most of 'em from the UK) are after a lot of the same things as me (Salvadors, Emperors, Elbie Parker to name a couple). I also have plenty of non-soul wants as well.
Sis--you're not gonna believe this, but I had that Metros 45 for a short time and stupidly traded it for a copy of the first Shrine records LP. I thought it was worth it to finally get to hear the Shrine stuff...yeah, right! I should've just bought one of those albums rather than trade a cool 45 for it!
Best,
Mark
![]() ![]() |
Mark Speck - How are you? Not too long ago, that 45 went for about $346 on ebay. What I really want is the B side "No Baby."
![]() ![]() |
Mark, I could have warned you about the Shrine tracks--very amateurish and unimspiring with the exception of a few tracks. It's no wonder none became hits and only a few received any airplay.
![]() ![]() |
Yeah, RD, but still I just had to hear 'em. Besides, this was quite some time ago, before I had the PC and was dealing with the guy I traded it to via snail mail.
I also traded a rare 45 ("Can't Stop Looking for My Baby" by the Fantastic Four) to get the second volume of Shrine. Now it's all out on CD, with unreleased stuff. I'm kicking myself now!
Best,
Mark
