Jackie Wilson

Gerald Alston (Manhattans)

Eddie Levert (The O'Jays)

James Brown's Live at the Apollo album from 1967.

Compilation of great, rare, & lost soul CD's, with people like The Capitols, Timothy Wilson, Derek Martin, Walter Jackson, Joe Valentine, The Realistics, & other various special groups!!

I have other faves some of which I really love to listen too on a regular basis but they might lend to my sad feelings, such as Jimmy, Dinah, Nancy, Johnny, Areatha, & Smitty, etc... so I won't list them here since this is to uplift the spirits.:)

If I am down and out, there is no way I would listen to DRuffin or Levi Stubbs. They would tear my heart out.

Top of pageBottom of page   By Sue (64.12.96.238) on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 12:22 am:

Sis,
I agree ...Levi or David will rip your heart out -- in a good way ...but it's Marvin, Smokey, Eddie, Teddy, and I'd add Michael McDonald, for soothing romanticism.

Forgot one...Philip Bailey...when he did I'LL WRITE A SONG FOR YOU with EWF, I wanted to cry!

I wouldn't mind listening to David Ruffin, Dennis Edwards, Teddy Pendergrass, and others with those voices, but they would only make me cry more because they would speak to my soul. :)

Hey Fayette, I know just how you feel!! I saw Eddie on the '82 reunion tour twice...second time he came into the audience and serenaded me with "Intimate Friends"...GOOD GOD! Talk about someone having some wild dreams that night...LOL!!!!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Helene (217.32.166.37) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 10:33 am:

Is it a female thing, listing David and Levi as being able to rip hearts out? I feel exactly the same.

In fact, if ever I am feeling a little low, and I hear Levi sing " Just ask the lonely", the only thing I feel like doing at that point is to sink a bottle of red wine and hibernate for a bit!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Sue (205.188.209.109) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 06:02 pm:

"Ask the Lonely" is it, Helene.

I have the backing vocals down pat -- trouble is, once when I was singing "behind" Levi in my car one time last year I was so engrossed in it I didn't realize I was exceeding the speed limit and passing a cop car.

He pulled me over pretty fast.

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 06:05 pm:

Sue - Did you let him know why you were exeeding the limit? Did you let him listen to our Levi? :o)

BTW: Do you have the Karaoke, and have you listened to Levi sing that song without the music?

Top of pageBottom of page   By Sue (205.188.209.109) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 06:10 pm:

No Sis, that cop thought I was high on something other than music, which annoyed me. He found out that I was sober as a judge ...

I don't have the karaoke, no. That doesn't always work with backing vocals, does it?

Top of pageBottom of page   By SisDetroit (68.42.209.170) on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 06:13 pm:

On Levi's "Ask The Lonely" you can hear the background vocals in the same speaker with Levi. However, all of the songs aren't like that. Some of the songs have the background with the music.
