I remember a family group from London (Was it London?) named Five Star back in the 80's. I think they came out with only one album, at least in the USA. I liked a few of their songs, one was called "All fall down". After that one album they disapeared. Does anyone know what happened to them?
I went on Amazon and, I found one album by them but it's out of stock.
Thanks for the info...

I played "Let Me Be The One" at a party the other nite and it STILL rocks...They were from the UK.

Yes London...and they all looked like Michael Jackson, around the time THRILLER was popular.
I wondered what happened to them too. 'Let Me Be the One' was the 'dog-on' song by them. LOL. Funky Tune.

Actually it was Romford in Essex and they did extremely well with their snappy dance moves and glossy clean cut image. Unfortunately, Stedman attracted attention from an incident similar to what happened to George Michael several years later. The tabloid press felt that that aspect was far more interesting and it snowballed from there.

It was a shame really cos they had a big following all over the country. I didn't realise they were known in America too.

Good Afternoon. I liked All Fall Down & Are You Man Enough as well. Dyva, now that you mention it, they all looked like Michael, right down to the Jheri Curls. The Pearson Family made some pretty nice songs. As they were from the UK, I wonder if any of our UK friends here know what they've been up to these days. The lead singers voice always reminded me of Janet J.

My song by Five Starr was "Can't Wait". Nice Cut. I have them on a Video tape at home...somewhere 3 sisters & 2 brothers.

Hey jrlo, just a little more info for you. I have 5 LPs by them & they are as follow:

Luxury Of Life (1985 - RCA NFL1-8052)
The songs that I used to play when I DJed were Love Take Over, All Fall Down (their 1st release), Let Me Be The One, RSVP. This LP had trsacks produced by Nick Martinelli, Steve Harvey (of "Tonight" fame) & Steve Nichol, Carl McIntosh & Jane Eugene who were Loose Ends. They really made Deniece Pearson sound like Janet.

Silk And Steel (1986 - RCA AFL1-5901)
The songs that I used to play from this LP were Can't Wait Another Minute, Find The Time, If I Say Yes, the funky Are You Man Enough & a mellow song Please Don't Say Goodnight (which was produced by Pete Wingfield of "18 With A Bullet" & Olympic Runners fame).

Between The Lines (1987 - RCA 6635-1-R)
This LP contained Whenever You're Ready, Knock Twice, the mellow Strong As Steel & the ballad Live Giving Love.

Rock The World (1988 - RCA 8531-1-R)
This LP was pretty mellow. It featured the dance cuts Another Weekend, Physical Attraction & Rock My World & the more mellow cuts Godsend, Let Me Be Yours, Someone's In Love & Rescue Me.

Five Star (1990 - Epic AL 46768, E 46768)
This was another mellow affair. It contained the dancers Still Waiting, Treat Me Like A Lady & I'm Still Waiting & the mellow I Can Show You Love, Tienes Mi Amour, Lost In You & the ballad Feel Much Better.

Five Star had 9 R&B chartings, 3 were top 10 R&B, the remainder charted no lower than # 39 R&B. It's funny jrlo, until you mentioned it, I didn't realize that they had released that many LPs. They were pretty popular here in N.Y. for a minute, from '85 to '87. After that, Rap music exploded & the R&B charts & Radio have never been the same. I hope that this info helps you.

Hey Juice!

Not to digress, but do you remember this group called 52nd Street? When you mentioned Nick Martinelli, he produced them too. I have the album "Children of the Night", that had the hit "Tell Me How It Feels". That was cut.

Man! I used to jam "All Fall Down", "Let Me Be The One" and "Can't Wait Another Minute" during my college DJ years.

Five Star did indeed have the goods.

Back in'86 while producing the Lewis Sisters with Linda Lewis, I came a song called Cant wait another minute and at the time Famous Music "held it for me" for them to record,
I then recorded the song, an expensive video was done with British heavyweight champ Frank Bruno in it.

The record was soon scheduled for release.

Then one day as I was walking along Carnaby Street in London. a radio was blaring and it said : "brand new smash from Five Star, Cant Wait Another Minute"!!
Needless to say, we were shocked and dismayed by that happinstance and felt betrayed by Famous Music who gave us an "exclusive" on the song.
And so goes the music biz.

Oh yes...5 Star was da bomb! I had all of their tapes...I think I still have the first two! The DJ in my area jammed the first two albums, including the slow jams. I remember they were very popular here as well as in the UK.

jrlo-go to http://www.gemm.com. They have never failed me yet with hard-to-find releases! :)

Eli-that's messed up! But, that's music biz alright! :)

The Slightest Touch.

That was a real knockout, did you get that one over in the States.

They performed at the London Gay Pride a couple of years ago

What's up Handsome, yes 52nd Street was bad. I have their Children Of The Night (1986)& Something's Going On (1987)LPs on MCA. Tell Me How It Feels Was the smash & I loved that song, I was also partial to the cuts Never Give Up On You, You're My Last Chance, I'm Available, I'm Available, Abandon Love & the gorgeous I Can't Let You Go, all from their first LP.

My favorites from their second LP were: the beautiful ballads What Did I Do Wrong (a girl asking her mother who had abandoned her, what she had done wrong for her to leave) & Memories. The dance songs were Seven, I'll Return, I Do I Do, Tomorrow & Are You Receiving Me. They also had a Jazz-Styled cut called Something's Going On.
The group line-up for this LP was:
Diane Charlemagne - Lead Vocals
Tony Henry - Guitar & Background Vocals
John Dennison - Keyboards
Tony Bowry - Bass & Background Vocals

The 1st LP was produced by Nick Martinelli, the second by Lenny White of "Kid Stuff", "Peanut Butter", "Fancy Dancer" & "Didn't Know About Love" fame. Also, do you remember their 1st U.S. release Cool As Ice? That song sounded nothing like their later sound.

I always thought that they sounded quite similar to Loose Ends. That would figure as Nick Martinelli produced some of their earlier tracks as well.

I was a big fan of Five Star. My favorite was "Rain or Shine". They reminded me of the Jets, another "family" group.

Five Star are still around, and recently toured the UK as part of an 80's show. Unfortunately there are only three of them now. Stedman and one of the girls declined to take part - big shame. I remember taking my 12 year old son to see them at the Hammersmith Odeon in the 80's at the height of their fame. It was a great night.

Hello everyone! I am amazed that there is soo much info and questions on Five Star here. I must disagree on a couple of things. I don't think that Five Star looks like any of the Jacksons. Five Star hasn't had plastic surgery and the have their God given looks. We all know the story about the Jacksons, namely Michael! Although I am a Janet Jackson fan, I must say that Denise Pearson's voice is far superior to Janet's! Denise has a helluva voice and I compare her to the likes of Chaka Khan! Anyway, to find out about Five Star's full discography and recent happenings, follow this link:
