I was researching the Northern Soul Scene and discovered this related poem by a Londoner.

Sometimes Detroiters forget how far reaching the music from our city has traveled to touch people. Anyone care to comment ?

Heaven Underground

Northern souls on Southern streets West End bound to basement beats and long forgotten heroes sounds in this heaven underground.

Where sweat and condensation mingle with every beat another tingle. Legends cover walls around in this heaven underground.

In here color, creed or race has no purpose, has no place as feet on maplewood abound in this heaven underground.

We hear the love and heartache too of those who failed and never knew that on this street in London Town is this heaven underground.

We listen and sing songs of praise to long forgotten Detroit days. This is our world. we're at its hub, the legendary 100 Club.

Adrian is a friend of SoulfulDetroit and has given me permission to use pictorial material from all Kent cd's.

Ade works for Ace records in London who are behind the wonderful Kent series of cd's.

He also runs Cleethorpes Weekenders which have been amongst the most successful in the country.

Ade also took NS to London which was the bastion of Funk when we were diggin it at the Wheel in the North.

What can I say about the poem except it maybe gives an insight to my passion for this superb music genre.

It is a way of life.

Hi David,

Kudos to Adrian and his great website! I hope he does not mind us "reprinting" Mr. Davis' prose here.
Cleethorpes seems to be the prime weekender to attend. However, I fear I might be getting a late start to book 2004.
Glad to hear Harry will be coming to Detroit in July.
Will you and Carl be joining him this year and are there any plans for another live event party ??

I can't speak for Carl but I do recall asking him.

Another party is doubtful because of the hassle.

Maybe something informal.
