Hello All,

Can anyone tell me who (female) besides Sarah Vaughan sang a rendition of "One Mint Julep" ? Thanks.

Ray Charles did a fantastic rendition in 1961 or 62.

Oops...sorry, Ray Charles isn't a woman. He still did the best version of One Mint Julip, IMHO!

I still like The Clovers' original 1952 version.

Since male artists are now also listed here for One Mint Julip, here are some others who did it:

Arthur Lee Maye & the Crowns (unreleased Dig issue)

Johnny Otis & the Jayos - 1957 (Dig)

Yesterday's Today (NYC acapella soul harmony grp)
(Starlight)

I've got a boogaloo version somewhere, on a 60's record by either by the Lebaron Bros, or maybe Bobby Matos..?

The original version was recorded by The Clovers at Atlantic Recording Studios at 234 West 56th Street above Patsy's Restaurant in midtown Manhattan on December 19, 1951. John "Buddy" Bailey sang the lead vocal with Harold Winley singing the bass. Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson produced the session and Jesse Stone did the arrangement. The piano riffs were by Harry Van Walls and Willis Jackson played the tenor sax solos. The song was written by ex-Vaudeville hoofer Rudy Toombs. Released in March 1952 as Atlantic single 45-963, the disc peaked at #2 on Billboard's Most Played Juke Box Rhythm & Blues Records and Best Selling Retail Rhythm & Blues Records charts. Billboard published 2 R&B charts in those days. They narrowed it down to one chart in 1958.
