Adding this group to the webpage...a difficult discography is hopefully pretty accurate.. but the one thing I can't clear up is about Zulema Cusseaux..whether she rejoined the group in 1975. The page is under construction but can be viewed. Any help would be appreciated Barry www.soulcellar.co.uk Link: Great Voices(Groups) |

I loved Faith, Hope and Charity. I saw them in person opening for the new Supremes right after Jean Terrell took lead. The were very good in person. Wish I could find a CD of theirs. Is there one out there? |

ZULEMA ! I recall her performing to an audience of one in BROOKLYN and you'd sware the house was packed. What a tremendous artiste.I know that Brenda And Destry and Albert used Zulema on their recordings in the background.I was sorry to hear of Brenda Hiliard (the JAMAICA GIRLS)untimely passing.I was told Zulema is in Florida now. don't know how true that is. I wish I had the earliest stuff of theirs(FH&C). I have the lp HEAVY LOVE that Zulema was a lead vocalist on. You're my peace of mind, COme back and finish what you started,Life goes on....are among my faves by FH&C.............and I Love Van's SOUL CHA CHA....and ZALMAC (Zulema's last group) as well! I was going to start a thread on the ZULEMA gal...that RSVP lp is one of my most memorable lps .I played the f....out of that one.I bought it for others as well as duplicate copies for myself. In my young and clueless days(haze) I never wanted to be without SIDE 1 of RSVP on RCA...When I first heard the dejay play tracks 1,2 and 4 consecutively at the CROWN and ANCHOR in Ptown ( a disco bar). I got down like I've never got down before. The boogie had gotten to me! baaaaad!...and alas I was never the same!...upon reading this back I had to mention that SUSSEX lp with "Telling the world goodbye" and "You've Changed on me" and the stellar "GIVING UP" yowsah!....God bless VAN McCOY also....saw him on Tom Snyder with Carol Douglas back in the day. treasures! all! |

Barry, I'd have to check this but from memory Zulema was replaced by Diane Destry - she never rejoined the group. Zulema's only on the Maxwell and Sussex FHC tracks ( and of course their earlier group the Lovells) Davie |

Davie, wasn't Zulema still in the group when they moved to the RCA label & recorded "To Each His Own"? This song along with "So Much Love" (on the Maxwell label) are my favorites. Handsome |

Left to right: Brenda Hilliard, Albert Bailey and Zulema Cusseaux What a great group, one of my all time favorites and I have many. These three singers really stand out when it comes to great vocal quality. |

If the song "So Much Love" does not make you wanna get up and hollor I don't know what will. What a great record and on a different tip the "B" side is equally as good. "Let's Talk It Over" breaks it on down with some soulful and gutsy singing. The stereo versions of these two tracks are also included on their first album "Faith, Hope & Charity", issued on Maxwell Records. |

The "Heavy Love" is actually on Sussex SXBS7019 although it was distributed by A&M. Here's the track listing for the final album "Faith, Hope and Charity" (20th Century 560) 1978 How Can I Help But Love You People In Love Oughta Be Together I'm Ready For A New Love Keep Me Baby Find What You Need Don't Pity Me You Never Were My Friend Here's the track listing for the first album "Faith, Hope and Charity" (Maxwell 88002) 1970 So Much Love Something Wings of Love Let's Try It Over Baby Don't Take Your Love I'm Gonna Love You That Lovin' Feeling Make Love To Me Johnny Come Lately I don't have a track listing for the RCA album that contained "To Each His Own" Zulema left the group after the "Heavy Love" album, some sources say 1971 but it may have been in '72. Her first solo album was issued on Sussex while the label was still issuing FHC singles which had been recorded before she left. Brenda Hilliard and Albert Bailey continued as a duo, Brenda and Albert, with one release on a short-lived Sussex subsidiary label Clarama 1200 (1974) Talking About Loving You This Has Happened Before The group then reformed with Diane Destry in place of Zulema and signed to RCA as part of a production deal that VAn MCcoy had with the label. Zulema occasionally helped out on background vocals with the reformed group but only in the studio - she was not a member. Davie

Hello everyone. I have a copy of the RCA L.P. that contains "To Each His Own", mentioned by Davie Gordon. I can post the track listing tomorrow. The cover lists the members of of FAITH HOPE & CHARITY and I can confirm that ZULEMA is not one of them. Davie .. I have that BRENDA & ALBERT "This Has Happened Before" 45. I'd never realised they were members of FAITH HOPE & CHARITY. Thanks for the information. I'm intrigued by the label name "Clarama", as there was a thread on the old forum about six months ago about SAMSON & DELILAH and one of the label scans had a mention of "Clarama Publishing" or something like that. Does anyone know the full story? Roger |

Hi Roger, Clarama was, a far as I can tell, a publishing company set up by Clarence Avant to handle songs released by artists connected to his company Sussex Productions (which later evolved into the Sussex label) You'll find "Sussex Productions" and "Clarama" on quite a few singles from '66 - 69 on labels like MGM, Verve and ABC. When my computer at home's up and running again I'll be able to access my database (fingers and toes crossed!) and should be able to come up with some sort of listing of the releases that pre-date the Sussex label. The Samson & Delilah connection to Clarama, if I remember rightly, is that Clay McMurray wrote and produced for duo - Clay had a production deal with Sussex as did Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore. davie |

Hey Roger! A koboso is a hand held instrument with a handle and several groups of steel beads going around it. The instrument is played by slightly turning the handle from side to side with one hand, while the beads rest in the other hand, creating a shssh shssh sound. I wish a had a photo to show you. Hope my description helps! Handsome |
