Died in Las Vegas today at the age of 57, one day before the start of their latest tour.
Was also a participant in Standing in the Shadows of Motown book...
Thanks Ox!

Thanks for this sad news Conrad.
On UK teletext this evening it says he was found dead in his hotel room.
It was a reunion tour (USA) that he was engaged in with Daltrey and Townsend.
Teletext recalls some of their mad moments...like when Townsend clobbered Entwhitle with his guitar.
The Who were legendary. Some of my early 45 purchases were theirs.
Allen Slutsky gives him an excellent intro in the book by saying James would have been knocked out by his participation in the tribute.
I particularly like the fact that John was part of the British love affair with the Motown Sound and the City of Detroit.
John Entwhistle RIP.

I AM REALLY SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT JOHN ENTWISTLE PASSING AWAY...WHEN I WAS PLAYING IN DETROIT HE WAS PROBABLY AT THAT TIME MY FAVORITE ENGLISH BASS PLAYER........I REGRET NOT PERSONALLY MEETING HIM, JUST TO HAVE CONVERSATION WITH HIM WOULD HAVE BEEN AN HONOR FOR ME..... I KNOW HIS NAME AND HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE BASS WORLD WILL GO ON FOREVER.....

The 'Oo did some spiffy Motown covers, 'Leaving Here' & 'Baby Don't You Do It' come to mind... so does Heatwave... sad day for BritRock, The Who & Stones were my introductions to near 24/7 music listening...

I'm completely bummed out, I got to hang out with John the last time he was in Detroit. He was a really nice soft spoken gentleman. He mentioned he always loved the Tamla-Motown sound. He thought
that James Jamerson was an amazing bassist and he mentioned that when the Who first started out that they covered Heatwave and Gotta Dance To Keep From Cryin'.

A great musician, and one of the first bassists in the UK to give the James Jamerson some recognition for his work. credit where credit is due.He will not be forgotten!

A truly great British bassist. John will be sadly missed.

"Ox" was amazing. I saw him perform when the Who played here last year.
May he rest in peace.
Best,
Mark
