What happened to this Detroit group? They recorded a wonderful single on Wood City called "Off-Spring"/"Desrtuction". Are any of these cats still around?! Also, any info about the Wood City label would be greatly appreciated!

The PIR outfit were a Philly group formed by Frank Brunson - vocals & keys. They were definitely not the same as the Detroit "People's Choice"
I'm sure Bobby can help us on this one re the Philly crew ;o)

Was there any connection between the Philips group and the PIR group? The credits on the Philips sides (which are Northern) are Billy Carl and Reid Whitelaw.
Possible that there were TWO different People's Choice groups out of Philly? The Philips sides are from '69-'70.
Best,
Mark

PALMER - 5009 - PEOPLES CHOICE - HOT WIRE - EASE THE PAIN
PALMER - 5020 - PEOPLES CHOICE - SAVIN' MY LOVIN' FOR YOU - EASY TO BE TRUE
PALMER - 5031 - PEOPLES CHOICE - SAVIN' MY LOVIN' FOR YOU - EASY TO BE TRUE
WOOD CITY - 25000 - PEOPLES CHOICE - DESTRUCTION - OFF SPRING
Hope that's of interest?!

David, how does the Grandland 45 sound?
![]() ![]() |
As clean as the Palmer 45, if that's what you mean?
"Hot wire" is the better of the two sides IMO. Quite a heavyweight bass line and a moody bit of sax work riding over a bit of organ work too.
The phrase, "low down and dirty" springs to mind!

"Hot Wire" was also recorded by Al Green for his LP on Hot Line Music Journal (supposedly using the same backing track).
