Kirkland ) of a track called "I'm Outta Here"
on a 1992 hip hop album by Diamond and the
Psychotic Neurotics. It's on the "Stunts, Bunts and Hip Hop" album (on Mercury).

Hip hop isn't my forte so I'll leave any further
comments to somebody else.

Can't say I've heard that 90s track but I just want to say that "Shades of Green" by the Flaming Ember is one of the most soulful tracks I've ever heard (and proof that you can still get great records without mortgaging the home).

The flip side in the States was "Don't You Wanna Wanna".......mind you, you will still not like cos I used to play that side almost as much!!

"Shades of Green" was one of those songs that seemed to get rave reviews from the UK critics.....

In my opinion, Jerry Plunk is one of the "realest" blue-eyed soul brothers around.
I enjoyed his voice ever since their first Hot Wax recordings, and have re-discovered him once again via the HDH re-issues.
Westbound #9 and I'm not my brothers keeper are my faves.

Hey Bobby and David. I remember doing the session on Engine Number Nine and I'm Not My Brothers Keeper. I believe we cut those tracks at Tower Studios for HDH. That was an interesting studio because we recorded in a room built on the stage of the theater. I know we did earlier HDH tracks at Tera Shirma but I think those tunes were done at Tower

I spoke with Jimmy Bugnell several years ago...he was the lead guitar player in Flaming Ember in the late 60's...when they were playing at the Last Chance Bar in Dearborn...Jerry Plunk was seeing Telma Hopkins in those days...I can't remember who else was in the band, but I do remember trying to get them an LP deal at Polydor Records in 1978 when I worked in Promotion...we recorded a couple sides and they sounded better than ever. Unfortunately the label passed, but it was an incredible session. Jim Vitti engineered.

So all that guitar work was you then...I could'nt get enough of that album version when I first heard it...

Did you also do those wonderfully extended versions of Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed and Everything Good Is Bad???

Hey John, I also played on the single, "Somebody's Been Sleeping in my Bed". I'm not sure on "Everything Good is Bad". I imagine extended versions were just longer takes of the same records we made with different mixes and edits.

The point I was making with those extended mixes was that on, say, Somebody's Been Sleeping, there were all these guitar sounds in the middle break, making it sound a bit like it was from outer space - meaning sounds I had never heard before...same with I'm Not My Brother's Keeper.
