Howdy, Nightflight listeners! Well...how can I ever top Joseph Monreal's the last 2 week MEGA-tribute to the great Miss Ross? I can't! So I will just move on over! As we approach next week's
"Nightflight" debut of The Complete Motown Singles collection...that's weeks and weeks and weeks
and weeks....[[pant pant pant) of Motown singles from 1959 to 1971, I wanted to slip in the show I have for tonight. Tonight....on "Nightflight"...The Sound Of Philadelphia!!!!

Tonight's TSOP shindig contains the usual geniuses responsible for this magnificent music...so do join me as I pay tribute to them....on "Nighflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and streaming live worldwide at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org/)

Thanks!
John

John;
I'm digging the sounds of Philadelphia big time this evening. As you know, I've been prowling the streets and back alleys of Los Angeles, Ottawa and Montreal lately seeking out edgy wall art and graffiti. Sometimes an interesting poster grabs my eye as well.

This evening as I'm grooving to your musical offerings, I 'm doing what I enjoy most - listening to good music and reworking images on my new computer. Previously I could only do one or the other, and now.... well, I'm being a hog. LOL!

For you, here is an image I played around with a few minutes, as you've put me in that mood!7124

When Steve Caldwell left The Orlons [[1964), Cameo/Parkway cut him out of the picture, literally [[see follow up post). From 1965 to 1967 The Orlons performed as a trio, and then broke up. Lead singer Rosetta Hightower moved to England and cut her first solo sides in 1968. Many years later Steve reformed the group and today he is the only original Orlon remaining. However, current member Jean Brickley is sister to original Orlon member Shirley Brickley and replacement Orlon Audrey Brickley. All three Brickley Sisters were original members of Audrey & The Teenettes [[along with Rosetta Hightower and Marlena Davis) which was the genesis of The Orlons.

Russel Thompkins, Jr did 'Foolish' on "Collection: a Matter Of Style" in 2002

It appears that “Foolish” was original to Mathis’ 1973 Thom Bell produced album “I’m Coming Home”. A number of sources specifically mention how this was Mathis’ first album of almost all original material in some time [[the set included two Stylistics covers). I kept thinking that Deniece Williams had recorded it, but I think I was confusing “Foolish” with “Silly”.:confused: Whatever the case, “I’m Coming Home” is one of Mathis’ most innovative and enjoyable albums. After 40 years it still sounds fresh.:cool:

Thanks, Joseph! Well...maybe I am remembering hearing "Foolish" around the time of the album release. Really lovely song!!
