As far as I can tell from my own research, this ditty has only been featured on the Marvin Gaye Collection. But little is known about it? Was it recorded in Detroit, New York or Los Angeles? Who are the backing group? And while on the subject of Marvin Gaye...What were the differences between Love Starved Heart: RARE AND UNRELEASED [1994] and Love Starved Heart -Expanded [1995]? I know one had extra tracks and the covers are different.

We found this in The Motown Vaults, when looking for song to place on the "From The Vaults" LP series from 1977-79. I remember it being a Mickey Stevenson production, and thought The Love-Tones sang the backgrounds. They had been brought to Motown by Mickey Stevenson [[having had been his main backing group on his Stepp Records and House of Beauty and Anna Records' productions [[as The Mello-Dees). I've read a few statements that The Temptations sang the backgrounds, but this group doesn't sound like The Temptations, nor The Four Tops, nor The Spinners [[and The Originals weren't yet formed). It sounds like a normal Detroit 1963 recording to me.

I agree Robb, it definitely is not the Temptations, Tops, Spinners or Originals on backup vocals. 1963 sounds about right as the recording year.

Kamasu, regarding your second question on Love Starved Heart, you answered it yourself - the expanded edition has more tracks. Nine songs and a short interview excerpt were added to the 16 tracks of the earlier release. It has the original liner notes by David Ritz plus additional notes by Harry Weinger on the added tracks 17-26. The expanded edition was released in 1999. You can find the credits for tracks 1-16 and for 17-26 here:
