This Motown secret is one I had ignored for a long time and Im sorry I did. There are not too many CDs that I listen to where I am not familiar with the songs but this guy caught my attention I listened to the ones I can find on youtube and now I want to get the Anthology he should have been a hit maker.

Stephanie - What a huge surprise and great treat this is! I had not heard of Tommy before, so this truly caught me unaware. He still has a terrific voice. Went straight to YouTube and couldn't believe how 'good' Good's Motown recordings are. Thank you so much for posting this. Just wonderful. Found this article about him from 2006 which sheds some light on his time at Motown:

I'm headed back to YouTube to find more from him--instant fan that I now most certainly am.

I believe it was Ivy Jo Hunter who sang on "Ask The Lonely" which was attributed to Tommy?

This version by Ben Brown is new to me..... what's the story?

I wonder if there's any chance that Tommy Good's version of "Ask the Lonely" will ever be located in the Motown vaults.

Didn't TOMMY GOOD post here for a while some years back?

I think it was around 2006 when his "Motown Collection" C.D. came out. My favourite track off that C.D. was "Honey Lane" so I thought I'd try to find it on youtube but it doesn't seem to have been posted.

This is the only track off the C.D. I can find on youtube.... another goodun .. with THE ANDANTES very prominent in case thisoldheart chooses to take a listen .... :)

It seems that this CD must have been a good seller as l thought about buying a spare copy recently and could not find it on Ebay at all and l think one copy on Amazon which was about 4 times its original price.
During his visit to Northampton in 2006 l had the pleasure of meeting with him on several occasions and he was a super guy, very friendly and appreciative, at one point l overheard him talking about other unreleased tracks, about 40 altogether, which l presume included the ones issued on his Motown Collection CD.
A volume 2 would be absolutely brilliant!!!

TALK ABOUT A GOOD FEELING

Written by: Robert Staunton, Robert Walker, & Charles Jones

Good is in terrific voice.

The beautiful video is by Tomovox, along with his great notes about the recording and Good:

You need to obtain Al Abrams book Hype N Soul and read the fascinating story about the Tommy Good demonstration at Motown HQ in Detroit. A bit of unknown history of this singer.

I don't think this matter ever got settled: Who is it singing on the version of "Ask The Lonely" from "Motown sings Motown Treasures?"

Continuing this thread: http://faac.us/adf/messages/131452/120643.html?1157467505

I'm almost sure it isn't Ivy Jo, as his version is very different. Here's a copy, it's towards the end of the video:

I found it on amazon uk for £15.49 new, £13 used and £7.49 to download. Not too bad I think.

I haven't played the CD in a while, a good, [[no pun intended initially, but on the other hand, why not), CD. A nice enough looking guy, I think he was too old for the teenagers, but too young for the moms.
