It depends on what you like. Clara and her singers were too camp and show-bizzy for my tastes. They could turn it on for the cameras and the high rollers and gamblers in Las Vegas where they played often. Clara and company are more amusing to me than touching. They performed the kind of gospel someone like Paula Deen would probably appreciate.

I like the gospel quartets...the kind who often went for the throat. They didn't play church, they wrecked them.
