I would think that all of them scoped out what the competition was wearing.

In her book, Aretha mentioned a gown that she wore to the Oscars in 1969. She said she was surprised to see that on the TCB special [[in 1968), the Supremes came out in a very similar gown. She was referring to what I think is called the "butterfly" gown.

That photo was taken by Linda McCartney, Reese. I don't think Aretha borrowed Diana Ross' hairstyle. Aretha wore big hair in the Sixties. If she was influenced by anyone in terms of hair it was Mahalia Jackson.

Very true. Some of those wigs, like the one she wore on Merv Griffin or at MLK's memorial definitely look like something Mahalia would wear. And probably Clara Ward as well.

"Ree Ree" is rockin' the same wig on the cover of "Aretha In Paris"[[1968) it's an onstage/performance shot. She is also wearing a beautiful sky blue and white chiffon gown with Supremes overtones. I guess it does remind me of Diana's hair and I like it but
never made direct Ross/Franklin connection.
