.... and the studio band included Donny Hathaway & Leonard Caston + other greats.
When they went to Muscle Shoals, those guys nailed it !!!

Laura mentions that her contract with Chess was over when Brian approached her about signing with Invictus/Hot Wax. Actually, after Chess Laura signed with Atlantic's Cotillion label in 1969 releasing two singles, "What A Man" and "Together."

AL Green was Laura Lee's boyfriend or man around the time she signed with Invictus. According to him, the Hollands or one of them, didn't want to sign Laura Lee. He didn't like her singing style. She had recorded for the competition during Motown's boom period but she had not sold a lot of records.
Motown/Motowners had a way of freezing you out if you worked for a local competitor. They figured you didn't need them and Motown didn't need you. LAURA LEE was considered "old" so not easily marketable to teen record buyers. Motown thought the same of several other notable Detroit singers, not just Laura LEE.

Laura Lee is one of my top 10 female singers.
Wish a label would record her in a traditional manner, ala Bettye, Candi and Mavis, as opposed to the more "modern" techniques[[Bobby Womack's latest).
