This is a wonderful presentation. I aired this on my radio show when I did a tribute to the Detroit Symphony Strings! Worth seeing and hearing again...and again....and again....and...

Many thanks for posting this John.

Absotuley fascinating.

Really gives a taste of what a Motown string session was like and how Paul Riser worked with the musicians.

A truly talented person.

Cheers

Paul

Paul Riser is another of my Motown heroes. Listen to the Tempts' My Girl WITHOUT the horns and strings ...... Then listen to the hit record WITH horns and strings and you will know this cat kicks some SERIOUS arse!!! Melvin Franklin said when he first heard the playback of My Girl with Riser's horn and string arrangement added to it it blew him away!!

Riser says the work of his that he is proudest of is his horns and strings on Diana Ross' version of Ain't No Mountain High Enough. Indeed. If you listen to the instrumental version it reveals itself to be a symphonic masterpiece!!

Thanks for posting John. Very ínteresting. And the Originals get played! LuvHangOva, you're right about the backing track for Diana's ANMHE, on the Standing in the Shadows of Motown CD, masterpiece really is the word. Just listen to that arrangement... listen to those amazing musicians.

Paul Riser's arrangements on Norman Whitfield's music are absolutely superb.

that was time well spent! i have always felt "standing in shadows of motown" shortchanged any real interesting information. paul riser is a real history teacher. somebody really needs to get this kind of interview with other motown players ... h/d/h, are you listening?
