Not much on this set I really need. Būt I will look for the special on my local PBS channel.

I have 90% of the tracks on this set, but I still might consider getting it. I've been hoping someone would come out with a definitive girl groups box set; it would be nice to have most of the late 50s/early 60s "girl sound" records in one place. Rhino, who usually could be counted on for definitive box sets [[i.e. 60's soul, 70's soul, doo wop, etc.) chose a different route when it came to their girl groups box set. While full of interesting rarities, their 2005 box set sure didn't have many hits on it. This one does.

TJ. You've missed out the Velvelettes. Hope it's not too late to include the ladies

But the Velvelettes have been included in other projects by TJL There are no songs by the Three Degrees on here either. Ditto for the Sweet Inspirations, Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles, and the Honey Cone whose While You're Out Looking For Sugar first hit in 1969.

Where is "He's So Fine" by the Chiffons? If not the quintessential girl group record [[that honor probably goes to "Be My Baby"), it's definitely one of the top ten girl group records of all time.

I would assume that TJL picked most of the tracks for this set- I see that he managed to squeeze in a rare lead by his personal favorite Claudette Robinson. There are songs on the set that are not real girl group songs like Since You Been Gone by Aretha and Broken Hearted Melody by Sarah Vaughan. Broken Hearted wasn't even released in the Sixties, it's from 1959. Aretha and Sarah were not typical girl singers. I would have selected other songs. There are three or more tracks by the Supremes, which I don't need; two by the Orlons, of which one was not a big hit. These spots could have gone to other girls.

tjl didn't say this was a girl group compilation, just girl [[lead) grooves. This would be an excellent buy for a newbie or a library to distribute the focus of sound on female singers
in pop and early r&b. As an individual collector just about everything I enjoy on it I already
own so with a few exceptions [[like the Bobbettes) I'm pretty much covered with the groups
I'd like to have more of. Still I think it's a fine job...

I don't think I would pay $75.00 or more for this set just to get the 4 tracks I don't have already. Seventy-five dollars is probably how much it will cost to get it as a pledge gift.
