This was reviewed in NY Daily News a few days ago. I'd like to see it, but I think I'll wait a few weeks til it crosses the river and plays locally.


'THE SECRET DISCO REVOLUTION' — 3 stars

Documentary about the sociological underlay of the ’70s music scene [[1:30). Not rated. Quad.

Only a jive turkey would assume that a notable musical trend had no social or economic ramp-up. But some may still be surprised at this fun, well-informed chronicle of what was happening in the U.S. as lighted floors, boogie shoes and Saturday night fevers were the rage. The changing sexual mores, racial politics, women’s rights and drug use lined up to reject traditional rock and give birth to a style rich in subversive and liberating themes [[with a 4/4 beat). Gloria Gaynor, the Village People, Thelma Houston and other survivors weigh in. There’s silliness, too, but the facts turn the beat around.
