DAMN! I just got a call about this. I was in a good mood, now I'm sad. MR. BLAND was a character , a nice guy and most beloved by blues loving people all over. I got to see him rehearse, perform, discuss the music business with other artists and fans. NOBODY COULD SING A SONG the way he did. I will miss hiis being here physically, but that voice will remain imprinted in my heart and soul.

They are saying now that it was a hoax! He's still alive.

Bobby Bland Death Hoax Dismissed Since Singer Is ‘Alive And Well’

On Sunday [[June 23) the singer's reps officially confirmed that Bobby Bland is not dead. “He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet,” they said.

Some fans have expressed anger at the fake report saying it was reckless, distressing and hurtful to fans of the much loved singer. Others say this shows his extreme popularity across the globe.

I am still checking. There's a time difference between the east coast and Memphis. It is still the 23rd here.

I'm glad it is a hoax! There have been quite of few of these type of stories going around on different people. I'm sorry I posted this.

One of my sources at a local TV station says funeral services are set for this week, Thursday. There is so much going on right now, Mandela has taken a turn for the worse and this. I'm busy checking every where. I will get back to the forum. But the report that it is a hoax appears to be a hoax. Apparently, it is true. Mr. Bland died earlier this evening.

Mr. Bland's son just told me his father died at home at around 5:30 p.m. Memphis time. I didn't want to call Mr. Bland's home and be wrong with some BS. I didn't want to annoy or upset his family. But I had to do it. He was 83 and had been in poor health for a while.

This sort of thing [[hoax or no hoax) is cruel any way you slice it. Especially when it goes the way this one has [[yes it is true, no it isn't, yes it is, no it isn't, and so on and so on.)

If it is indeed true, and this last post seems to indicate that it must be, then of course it is truly sad news. He had a very distinctive sound and a long career. He was one of the original stars on one of my favorite labels, Malaco.

RIP [[if?)

Sad to hear that. Growing up in the south, I heard his music quite regularly! He'll definitely be missed around here. I'm glad for the time he was with us. But his music will live on.

I had this great photo of him and my mom from one of his shows back in the 60's. I've heard his music all of my life.

I already confirmed it several posts up. I called Mr. Bland's home here in Germantown. His family was taking calls from the media. His funeral will take place on Thursday at 11 a.m at First Baptist Church, 2835 Broad, Memphis, TN.

In the UK Peter Young will be dedicating the whole of the 'Soul Cellar' hour of his radio show this Saturday in tribute to Bobby. The Soul Cellar is the final hour of his weekly show, between 5-6pm BST. For those outside the UK, Jazz FM streams on www.jazzfm.com.

"Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland who has passed aged 83 was one of the most important artists in the history of black music. He moved easily from Blues to Soul with a voice that was both silky and raunchy simultaneously. Recording and performing from the early fifties, he achieved his first major success with ‘Farther Up The Road’ in 1957. This week’s ‘Soul Cellar’ will be an hour long special including some of his significant recordings. We’ll also hear interpretations of his work from Nancy Wilson, Oscar Toney Jr, Latimore, Little Joe Cook and Jimmy Smith."

Sadly, it's true. We will miss him and his music.
God Bless Bobby's soul.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Rodd and the rest of the Bland Family. He's at peace now no more long suffering illness.

Bobby made many great records during his long career, and his live performances were memorable as well. I recall one night in particular in Chicago in the late 70s when he was on a show with Albert King and B.B. King. Bobby was the middle act, with B.B. closing the show. B.B. was certainly no slouch as a live performer at that point in his career, but I remember feeling sorry for him having to follow Bobby, who was at the top of his game that night.

R.I.P., Bobby "Blue" Bland and condolences to your family and friends.
