Just bought this - I had never seen this in Stereo before, and it is true stereo: a mint Japanese copy from the mid- 1980's.

The US CD, cassette Motown Masters versions were mono only, as was the Hip-O 3 CD version Forvever.

An interesting acquisition!

Was the US original ever released in stereo?

@762rob,

Nice find! Did you have to pay a lot for it?

U.S. LP. :

What I found interesting is the difference in color saturation/ shading between versions.

Looking at the cover's reproduction in Forever Volume 1 , the colors appears so dull and flat , due to the non-glossy paper that was used for the booklet.

Perhaps Hip-O-Select should consider a cd re-issue of this and the stereo version of other early Marvelettes albums which have only been issued in mono in the U.S. To entice buyers/collectors, stereo versions of the bonus tracks from both Marvelettes' multi-disc
retrospectives might be included.

MARVELOUS MARVELETTES is available as a MP3 download, but I don't know if it is in stereo. Some of the tracks from the album are in stereo on FOREVER.

On my copy, Disc 2 of Forever has "The Marvelous Marvelettes" album entirely in mono [[tracks 1-10). On Disc 3, tracks 3: [['Locking Up My Heart') & 9: [['Strange I Know') are the stereo versions from the Greatest Hits album. Is your copy different from mine? If it is, you have a real find.
The stereo version of 'Too Strong To Be Strung Along' can be found on 2008's Definitive Collection

It wasn't cheap, like $100.00 but I didn't think I would see another one so I went for it.

Carole, it would be great if some of the tracks could be revisited in stereo versions - "Forever" is sold out at this point isn't it?

Yikes, rather hefty price but I'm sure worth it. Good for you to find it.

I've got the same Forever as everyone else. I was just pointing out that there are stereo versions of some of the tracks on Marvelous on other Marvelettes' discs or albums as you indicated.

does anyone have any background information on the backing vocals some of the voices sound different than on the previous three. "Silly Boy is outstanding I love that track and Gladys is all in the business and the individual solos are fabulous.

That's a cool find! I know when "Playboy" was first released on CD they used a stereo mix, so it's cool knowing there's also a stereo mix of "The Marvelous Marvelettes."

It is a rare find if it really is Stereo. I have sen CD and vinyl pressings of this and most are reasonably priced. Ebay has 2 sellers offering digital versions for around $20.00. But I have yet to find versions of Marvelous from Japan and in Stereo. Interesting that copies of Forever are selling for a bit above $100.00 and $250.00.

Just found a STEREO Japan copy of "Come And Get These Memories" white promo label, bought this one too.

Well, there is a stereo master for that one. George Solomon said a stereo master was planned for a Natural Resources release that was shelved. A stereo master wad used on the UK 2 on One Classic release. If you paid more than $13.00 for it, you were gipped. A sealed mono copy is only selling for that much on Ebay.

Yes I have one if those - sealed repros- it's in mono as I recall.

I think the shrink wrap was tight because it's kind of warped.

The UK 2on1 stereo sounds good.

I collect Japanese versions and am really into vinyl, so that is why I made the purchase. I really don't feel gypped.
