Howdy, Motown Fans! Motown had numerous "great years" for music...pivotal years...transitional years...years of growth and change. For tonight's show, I'm picking one particular year for Motown....1968....to focus on, with A and B sides, album tracks and alternate versions. Do join me tonight...for all this and more...on "Nightflight"...
on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org [[http://www.womr.org/)
Thanks!

When I was seventeen [[in 1968),
It was a very good year
It was a very good year for Motown girls
And hot summer nights
We'd hide from the lights
While smoking the green
When I was seventeen

But now the days grow short,
I'm in the autumn of my years
And now I think of my life as vintage oldies
Fine old songs that are still around
From San Diego to Provincetown
And from WOMR they pour sweet and clear
It was a very good year [[1968)

Technically Honey Chile peaked at 11 on the last week of 1967 but it stayed there for the first three weeks of 1968 as it got stuck in chart jam much like Nothing But Heartaches did a few years prior, getting jumped over by future number one Green Tambourine by the Lemon Pipers and in its final week by Marvin & Tammi's If I Could Build My Whole World Around You

Johnny,

Thank you for slowing the first version down. When it first appeared on 'Cellarful 2', our U.K. friends mentioned that it would be a hit in the clubs/on the dance floor. All I could think was 'heart-attack-city for these middle-aged men trying to re-live their youth! Honey, call the paramedics.

Which leads to the question that we've all been wondering [[well, at least some of us) ..
Were any of the members of the Casinyets playing the castanyettes on that song or had you already killed off all/some of the members of that famous group?

Is it true that she traded you a Major Tony Nelson space helmet and J.R. Ewing 10 gallon hat for it? Or did you just settle for 10 gallon jugs of your favorite liquid refreshment?
