Well I have been a record man my entire life until just recently when a friend of mine bought me a Bobby Taylor CD with many unreleased songs. They were so great that I have decided I will now venture into the CD market. Well, I always see talk about Hip-O Select on here and I am just wondering is there a list of all the Hip-O Select Motown and Soul releases since it started? I looked on the website and it only shows the ones they are currently selling. If anyone can help me out, or suggest any other CDs I should buy or other companies selling great CDs, that'd be great. Thanks.

I think there are probably a few more from the LA era, perhaps someone else can help Thomas with those.

Of course other Motown CD releases can be found at the Ace website, see http://acerecords.co.uk/features/label-profiles/motown.

The ones you listed, are those only the ones on the website? Because, another CD I was looking at was the Four Tops - Fourever and I thought Hip-O did that, but I'm not sure.

"Fourever" wasn't a Hip-O release - It was issued on Universal / Pgd 556-225

I don't class the Four Tops "Antholgy" as a Hip-O Select release but the insert does show their logo ....

I'd avoid the "Fourever" box set. Although the track listing is great, in my opinion it is poorly mastered and often the vocals sound very shrill and the backgrounds tinny. This one definitely needs a remaster.

Kenneth, by the time Thomas 96 gets round to Fourever, he may not have any money left. Unfortunately, mastering in need of mastering notwithstanding, it is a stellar set, from a stellar group.

To expand upon what Keith stated above, Ace/Kent Records have already released CDs on Marv Johnson, Patrice Holloway, Shorty Long, The Satintones, The Spinners, The Monitors, The Contours, Mary Wells, Eddie Holland, various female artists/groups and various male artists/groups collections, and there are more on the back burner.

I know. I love the Tops. I really enjoy the "Breaking Through" sessions especially.

Booty, "Trouble Man" 40th was on my original list; "What's Going On" 40th doesn't have the Hip-O name/logo anywhere as far as I can see and isn't on the website.

How many releases have there been this year? 3?

Is Baby It's Me still "on its way"?

Keith ... After I sent the post I realized that "Trouble Man" was on your list! As for "What's Going On", well I now make that 84 Motown releases thru Hip-O Select. No idea why I thought that was a Hip-O release - maybe the price!
