There are a few things there I'd never heard before, no place...the track with Don Garner included. There has been also a bit of confusion about the history of this singer over the years because of name and the fact that she recorded uncredited with different singers and
groups. Her real first name was Justine but she was credited as Jeanette on early recordings
and as "Baby", her nickname, on others. She was from a little town called Bamberg in South
Carolina,, which I ,BTW, used to visit periodically and I've met folks who knew her. I've
never had the pleasure of meeting her myself but I loved her voice...

She was a member of the Hearts and the Jaynetts in the 50's. There was one record released as the Jaynetts that she was not credited for [[a song she recorded lead on w/ the Hearts), there may have been others. During her solo career some singles were issued as Jeannette "B" Washington; Jeannette "Baby" Washington; Baby Washington; and Justine Washington.

The songs cut at Master Five in 1973, including the duets with Don Gardner, were recorded at Sigma Sound in Philly, produced by Bobby Martin & Clarence Lawton. "Lay A Little Lovin' On Me" w/ Don was written by Funk Brother Jack Ashford & Lorraine Chandler and arranged by Paul Riser. Great LP! Around '74 she did b/g vocals on James Brown's "Reality"LP. In '76 she recorded one single for RCA's Sixth Ave/Lawton subsidiary w/ Clarence Lawton again producing [[both sides were killer). From there she toured and recorded w/ Parliament/Funkadelic as Jeannette Washington and in 1978 became a member of George Clinton's P-Funk girl group, Parlet.

It's great when you guys get to hear some "new" songs you've never heard before. It makes these threads worth the time and effort!

Sorry, no place, but again there's that confusion I was talking about and it persists until this
day. Double check your facts, my friend. Justine "Baby" Washington and the Jeanette Washington that worked first with JB and was recruited by George Clinton were two different women. Baby, herself had said that a number of times to different people over the years. Also, Jeanette Washington who now goes by the name Satori Shakoor is currently
a commediane, actress and speaker with a legion of fans, many who know nothing of her
funk legacy...

Wow, Splanky that's news to me. I always thought it was one and the same Baby "Jeannette" Washington who became affiliated w/ James & G. Clinton during the mid-late 70's. Thanks for the info. Definitely worth checking out further...
