T.D. was the man! Even Isaac Hayes used to say that. He could croon as smooth as any soul man
growl as rough as any blues singer and slide up into the sweetest falsetto. He sang real
down home music that went completely over the head of the chic bourgie crowds of most
of my New York running partners but thrilled the sh*t outta my Carolina crew and cousins. I still
miss him. Was I Just A Fool was/is a funking masterpiece...

Tyrone Davis was indeed the man. My favorite TD tune came after 1972, Mom's Apple Pie. I still don't get the lyrics about a woman so mean she won't speak to her man when she sees him on the street, yet HE thinks she's so sweet like his mama's apple pies. Guess it's about a masochist?
