New show listed in NJ with Jr Walkers Allstars and The Contours.Can anyone give me a clue who I might actualy see? any Orig All Stars touring? How many Contours groups are active? Thanks in advance. Ken

There were two Contours acts touring the last I checked. About Jr Walker's Allstars, I'll have to get back to you on that one, hehehehehehehe.....

With regard to Jr Walkers All Stars, there is only a drummer who could possibly still be touring. At the time Junior Walker and the All Stars went into Studio A to record “Shotgun”, the group consisted of Walker on sax, Willie Woods on guitar, Vic Thomas on organ, and Tony Washington on drums [[on the record Washington was replaced by Benny Benjamin on drums and James Jamerson was added on bass). Soon after this session, James Graves took over as drummer for the All Stars. Walker [[1995), Woods [[1997), Thomas [[2010) and Graves [[1967) are all deceased, so Washington is the only surviving original member. Before Vic Thomas died, he and Washington were in a touring version of Jr Walkers All Stars. Washington may still be touring with this group.

Jr walkers'All Stars toured the UK in 2010 as part of the Motown 50th tour, I didn't think that there were any original members in the group, it was basically a tribute act, but I will check the tour programme and get back to you

I'm not as informed on the Contours as I should be.... Is Sylvester Potts an original member? I know Mr Billingslea is. If so, does anyone know why they have two separate groups and aren't together? Thanks.

Yes Sylvester is an original member. Why they split up. I am not sure exactly.

I just checked my copy of The Jr. Walker Story: The man Behind the Sax,written by Derek Dewalt, one of Jr.'s eleven children. For the record, Jr. was born Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr. in Briarsville, Arkansas.

At the end of this book, published in 2011, Derek states:

"His children are carrying on Jr.'s music, with the real Jr. Walker and the all Star's Band, with Lloyd sometimes on saxophone, and vocals. Hackaway, on guitar, Duke on bass, and Autry on drums. We continue to fight for his publishing rights, royalties, money owed, and to expose those trying to capitalize on his name, because What We Know, is What It Takes, is a Road Runner, and when Buttercup's Pucker Up, A Shotgun is coming. "

They sound great! So are these Junior's kids? If so, they are definitely worth seeing. Or is it just some random cover band? The website says Tony Washington and Victor Thomas are performing with the band [[who are both original members-though i didn't know of Victor Thomas...) with members Kenny Walker and Acklee King. Not sure which is the real lineup though. Regardless, thanks for the video.
