Just been listening to Baby Hit And Run by the Contours, the Dennis Edwards lead version, and would love to know what the lyrics are. They don,t appear anywhere on the Internet and wondered it any members have them.

Well, I did a quick web search also and had no luck finding them as well!

So, I thought I'd type them up from memory, but had to listen to the song again to remind myself of the lyrics. [[It's amazing, you think you know all the words to a song you've listened to gawd knows how many times, but still can't remember all of them, and the order they are in!)

Anyway, below is my transcription of the Dennis Edwards lead lyrics.

[[I haven't got access to what is thought to be a version with William Weatherspoon doing a demo lead , which would have been handy as his enunciation was the best of the lot, and you can hear every word clearly IIRC.)

Words I can't quite make out or am not sure of have question marks in their place or next to them*. Ad libs are in brackets.

*[EDIT] Now had a chance to listen to the William Weatherspoon demo and more closely listened to the Dennis Edwards version, and have updated the lyrics, so they should now be correct.

I was going to submit them to one of the lyric websites, but wanted to make sure I got them as accurate as I could first.

It's interesting to compare Dennis's delivery & differences in the words over the Billy Gordon and William Weatherspoon versions. [[The latter two are pretty similar).

I might post up the demo lead lyrics for comparison.

Much closer to the Billy Gordon lead [[as I suppose you'd expect) and interesting to compare to Dennis's lead cut a couple of years later.

I always felt the Billy Gordon version should have been released as a single. That's one of those songs that Motown let slip away through the cracks. It's a shame because the song is on fire.

I never cared for the Dennis Edwards version. It lacks the power and punch of the Billy Gordon version.
