As a young teen growing up in Ottawa, Canada, The Supremes made a huge impact on me. They opened up my ears to R&B music and gave an entry point for young people to interact positively with other teens of colour who dug the same music. Finally they are being rightfully hailed for all the important work they accomplished, perhaps not even being aware of their social impact, other than being beloved hit makers around the world!

That is a great story Mark. It is true, the Supremes were a part of a movement, a conscious movement that they were very well aware of at the time.
