Luke - I'm so glad you added that clip to the thread. Thank you. That recording is such a great piece of work written by Ed Cobb, who had been a member of The Four Preps. It's so perfectly suited to Brenda's voice, it sounds as if it had been written for her. And her performance on that recording never ceases to totally capture me, and it doesn't let go. Every note just seems to flow from her effortlessly. Motown had so many terrifically talented female singers on its roster--soloists and group members-- that I couldn't possibly choose a favorite. But when I watch this footage and hear the beauty and emotional power of Brenda's voice, it seems impossible to think of anyone else.

Nice tribute to the great Brenda Holloway. I would like to point out one factual error. When Brenda first met Berry Gordy in California and auditioned for him she could not have performed Mary Wells My Guy because it had not been recorded or released yet. Brenda was signed to Motown [[along with her sister Patrice) in late 1963. My Guy by Mary Wells was not released until March 1964, the same month as Brenda's song Every Little Bit Hurts. Both great songs
