Silly question:

My understanding is Eddie was born with the last name Kendrick. With the Temptations, he used the stage name KendrickS, but then as a solo [[in the 80's) reverted back to Kendrick.

Is anyone aware of why he added the "s" or switched back?

I thought it was an Astrology thing, that it was based on something to do with his horoscope. Remember for a while Dionne Warwick added an 'e' to the end of Warwick, making it Warwicke, for some similar reason? As I recall, it was something to do with her Horoscope or Numerology maybe.

I read somewhere that Eddie switched from Kendricks to Kendrick,
because Motown Corp. had something legally written in a document.
I do not know if this accurate.
But remember that the Temptations only got the right
to produce their own records after leaving and coming
back to Motown.
Otis and Melvin won that right.
Curtis Mayfield had to start his own record label,
Curtom, I think that is the name; to produce his own stuff.

If Kendrick was his real name, was Eddie related to Detroiter, Willie Kendrick? I know that Eddie was from The South [[Alabama). But almost all early '60s Detroit Black families had recent roots in The South.
