Sometime ago I had created a Word document with all the songs that were listed on DFTMC that were to be included on TCMS 12A 1972. Since it was mentioned on SDF a few months ago that TCMS 12A may probably be released sometime this year I thought I would share this list with everyone. The listing is alphabetized by song title, including the original 45 Catalog#. The *NR are songs that were not released but had a catalog# assigned. I also included songs that will have additional *stereo promo versions.

Additional notes follow the list.

Please note that I'm not sure if this is the actual track list since these songs were added to DFTMC more than a year ago, or whenever they last updated the site.

It was fun and exciting putting this together but I know I'll have even more fun relistening to some of these great songs when I actually have a copy of TCMS 12A in my hands! Hopefully the wait won't be too long...

Bobby Darin: The “B” side of “Sail Away” was “Something In Her Love” which most likely will be released on TCMS 12B 1972 since it was released as a “B” side of “Happy” M1217. DFTMC listed “Hard Headed Woman” for the TCMS 12A release.

Did someone from Hip-O say this was on the schedule for 2013? Be great to get the last couple volumes of the series. A lot of interesting tracks are listed above including the last hurrahs from some folks such as the Marvelettes and Vandellas.

Track #8 is that suppose to be the BLACKberries and not the BLUEberries? And did Marvin Gaye really only release one single in '72 and did Diana Ross release none?

The list should just cover the first six months.

I assume 1972 [[a) means it is being released in 2 parts as I don't see an entry for "Your Wonderfulwl Sweet, Sweet Love" [[7-11-72) by The Supremes.

Yes. 1971 was divided into 2 volumes of 6 months each.

Hi Kenneth,

No official word from HIP-O. There's been some "teasing" here and there that 12A may be released. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Hi RossHolloway,

You are correct, that should be the Blackberries. Typo on my part.

Marvin had two singles released in 1972, the other being "Trouble Man" which was released in Nov. 72. Trouble Man would appear on TCMS 12B.

Hi MaryBrewster,

YWSSL would be on TCMS 12B. I Guess I'll Miss The Man [[Oct 72) and Good Morning Heartache by Diana [[Dec 72) would also be on TCMS 12B. If you notice Diana does not appear on 12A since she had no singles released during the first 6 months of 1972.

Thanks for the follow up.

I always wondered if the last few volumes didn't sell well. I'm sure these are intended for hard core collectors only, but with so many Mono/Stereo versions of the same song, the track list is a bit challenging. But of course I want to complete the series!

I think the holdup has been obtaining the license to use some of these songs as apparently Motown/Universal does not hold the rights to these songs for some reason. I also think that the series should extend beyond just 1972. I know that's the year that the Classic Motown era ended, but the music didn't stop there and there was still lots of good music released by the label going forward and most probably been out of print since it was first released.

Yes, I agree. I would love to see more years to the series. Interesting about the licensing. I know that in the 70s many singer-songwriters started holding onto their intellectual property rights, as they realized the catalogs could be very highly prized commodities.

The stereo promo of Taos New Mexico turned out to be a myth - "stereo" printed on the label on one side, but both sides play exactly the same, viz. mono. The stereo promo of Eddie's Love also turned out to be mono, but at least it's different from the commercial version.
