Check out this video. It is a video of this lady talking about her top 5 Christmas songs. She talks about watching Diana Ross last night on the Christmas in Washington Special, and she also has a copy and talks about Mary Wilson's "My Supremes" magazine. I thought some of you would get a kick out of this.

Staying on topic. What are your favorite Christmas songs or movies?
I don't have a favorite movie. Unless you count "Frosty the Snowman" and Rudolph. Or maybe "The Wiz". My favorite Christmas songs are:

Silver Bells, White Christmas, My favorite Things: All sung by the Supremes.

It's Christmas Time: Diana Ross

It's the most wonderful time of the year: Any artist- partial to Diana Ross and Johnny Mathis

This Christmas: Donnie Hathaway

Silent Night: Sung by anyone. However, The temptations version- I've said before, its not Christmas until I hear this one.

The Christmas song: Nat King Cole

The Ronettes: Sleigh Ride

O Holy Night: Sung by anyone

All I want for Christmas: Mariah Carey

There are others that I can't think of at the moment.

Very cool video, thanks. I didn’t really have a favorite Christmas movie until 2000 when Vanessa Williams did “A Diva’s Christmas Carol”. This contemporary retelling of the Dickens classic is both funny and warm. It’s been shown every year since and if I miss it I have the DVD.

My favorite Christmas albums are The Supremes’ “Merry Christmas”, Johnny Mathis’ “Merry Christmas” [[1958) and Diana Ross’ “A Very Special Season”. These three are always in heavy rotation each Christmas.

If I had to narrow it down to just five favorite Christmas songs, I’d go with:
1. Silver Bells – The Supremes
2. I’ll Be Home for Christmas – Johnny Mathis
3. It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year – Andy Williams
4. Silent Night – Mahalia Jackson
5. Winter Wonderland – Diana Ross

Looks like I’m going to have to stretch it to ten:
6. Go Tell It on the Mountain/Mary Had a Baby – Vanessa Williams
7. Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! – Lena Horne
8. Marshmallow World – Darlene Love
9. Sleigh Ride – The Ronettes
10. Santa Baby – Earth Kitt

I know that I've forgotten a couple other very good British films, and also one American comedy that I like very much. I should NOT be able to pare down to 6. I should have had a solid list of 10 classics -none of which could I leave out. Maybe I'll remember them later?

Hey Robb_K, great minds think alike. You picked almost all my favorite Christmas movies, except I've never heard of "Holly and the Ivy." Still, anything with Ralph Richardson can't be bad.

I also enjoy the musical version of "A Christmas Carol" with Kelsey Grammer. Very worth checking out. The music itself stands out, and the atmosphere and performances are fantastic. It's shown on the Hallmark Channel, though I didn't manage to catch it this year.

"The Holly And The Ivy"-1954-Ralph Richardson was a British film that was hardly noticed in USA, and is rarely [[if ever) seen on TV there.

I agree with just about everything posted above.

There is one addition I'd make :

About 25 years ago, Loretta Young made a TV movie [[after, I seem to recall, nearly a quarter of a century away from films), with Trevor Howard, called ' Christmas Eve'.

If anyone here finds themselves getting emotional and sentimental around this time of year, but has not yet seen this picture, see if you can track it down. It's well above the level of an average made-for-TV movie.

While you may feel you can guess how the story will end [[and hope very much for that to happen...!) you'd best steel yourself not to fall completely apart during the last few minutes....!!:)

It's too hard to pick just 5 songs, but these three always get played during the holidays:

"Christmas [[Baby Please Come Home)" - Darlene Love
"All I Want For Christmas is You" - Mariah Carey
"Pine Cones and Holly Berries" - The Osmonds
