Cleve passed away suddenly while at a vote machine yesterday. He didn't have any know illnesses. May he R.I.P

The pioneers are rapidly leaving us. Earth Angel holds a special place in my heart. As a young child, I remember going into a listening booth in a record shop to play Earth Angel on a 78 rpm. The listening booth was remnants of a previous era. [[ I guess all record shops had them in the '40's) And I remember the clerk asking me if I wanted 45 or 78. Thought 45 was just a fad and got the 78. [[Still have it, although as you can see, it is clearly broken)

Back then, to get my money's worth, I always played the "B" side of a record too and wound up liking it. Years later, I read that Hey Senorita was supposed to be the "A" side

Back then, there were the original records and then cover records by white artists. I was not exposed to the original records until years later. [[If I moved my radio dial way down to the end, I probably would have heard them, but did not know that at the time).

I bought all the covers Sincely , not by the Moonglows, but by the McGuires; Ain't That A Shame by Pat Boone [[ugh !!!), Tweedle Dee by Georgia Gibbs , but with Earth Angel, somehow I got it right. I got it by the Penguins and never liked the Crew Cuts version.

Sorry for the rambling, but Earth Angel has a special place in my heart. It was one of the first records that I bought and was the song that turned me on to a new kind of music that I had not heard before. Patti Page, Perry Como, Doris Day etc were still at the top of the charts back then but things were changing.

Earth Angel remains one of my all time favorite records.
