never released in the UK....relegated to a B side in US....it has a throwback sound to it from the halcyon days...was it "in the can" for a few years?...written by the extremly talented Raynard Miner....

"The Key - FOUR TOPS"
Track recorded June 25, 1968; lead vocal recorded Jul 12; background vocals recorded August 8 and 13; horns added August 16; strings recorded at Golden World, September 6; background vocals recut October 8 and 30 1968.
Released as Motown M 1159 B, November 6, 1969".

So it was a year old when released.

I always remember this as one of Sharon Davis's favourite tracks from the boys. She raved about it in the 4 Tops Fan Club newsletter when it was issued as a US 45.

Thanks all for the info...recorded in Detroit then....Raynard M certainly got the HDH sound down on this one

Raynard Miner was sadly underutilised by Motown.

Recently discovered this song and I now LOVE it, such an underrated gem. Relegated to a B-Side [[of "Don't Let Him Take Your Love From Me")
